I know there are different handicap systems at play here, but what is it specifically that causes the differential between the two? Are courses generally easier in NZ?

Of course, you could have been playing better golf at that point. :)

It's under the USGA system so every round you play can count for your handicap, so yes in the final Jan I was there cards going in daily whilst shooting low 70's ( best 10 from last 20 for your handicap index then adjusted to the slope of tee and course you were playing.)

Better weather, conditions pretty much the same for 9 months of the year, don't bother playing in rain and yup I'd say the course I'm at now is marginally harder.
 
You are all wrong, the forum is American. hosted in Massachusetts and the main GM web site is California. So there you go, Its American.

Plus GM is part of IPC Media Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Time Inc.. which is American.
