Playing a comp at the above next month. Website shows it has two courses. I think we will be playing the "better" one of the two if there is one. Other than that it looks nice, typical hotel course but not exactly loads of info on the site......seems more interested in pushing the leisure angle tbh.

So, wondered what the seasoned golfer's view is?

Tree lined? Tight? Deep rough or find it anywhere? Big Greens/Bunkers? Current condition? Tricked up? etc etc. Not staying at the hotel so only interested in the golf. Thanks in advance :)
 
I played there yesterday on the Earl's course which is the one I assume you will be playing. The course was very well kept and apart from the thunder, lightning (the club house was struck and had to be closed leaving us golfers outside in the storm whilst they sorted refuge), hail and torrential downpours it was a very good day.

I'm not sure what your home course is like, but this was very long and in the rain played every yard. One of the par 5's is 630 and the majority of par 4's I was hitting long irons/hybrids into, albeit missing the majority of them. Its tree lined in places but still quite forgiving if you hit a wayward one. One thing I noticed the most was the pure size of each green! Majority are 30-something yards deep and one is in the 40's. I only have a Garmin S3 which gives distances to front middle or back but the flags are not colour coded according to the area of the green, so if you missed, you had some extremely long putts on tiered greens that were quite pacy.

The final thing worth noting is the wind. Its quite open to the elements and and slight breeze is going to make it that much tougher. I was playing in a better ball competition and although the weather was bad it did not account for the pain that was a 5h45m round.

I'd like to play it again sometime when the wind isnt so high and im not getting hammered with rain and hail. Hope that helps.
 
When I played it, it was LONG. Long, long, long.

Driver, 3 wood, most of the way round - like playing the Brabazon.

Don't remember many trees. One nasty par 3 over a lake (210-ish?)

Looking at the pictures on the website, the "feel" of the place and the style look just as I remember it. Not likely to be a tree-fest for a 6 handicapper.

Actually, if you can live with the length (which I suspect you can) you've got nothing to worry about. :)

LOVED IT! Just too many 3-shots-to-the-green bogeys as I remember. (played to 12 off 10 at the time i.i.r.c.)
 
Thinking about it, it kind of reminds me (a bit) of the PGA National course. Much easier going on the water and bunkers though.
 
Thanks Dave, I've played the PGA so that's really useful. Not sure what tees we'll be off but hopefully whites so expect a long track then! Long irons probably the weakest part of my game so better get practicing.
 
Usually play a golf day there playing both courses. One is quite open American sort of style and one is a bit more tree lined, rough can be very long, lost ball style. Both are quite long courses in my opinion but I'm not the longest of hitters but deg not short. Ive always enjoyed playing both I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I'm a member of the pga. the earls at "the Warwickshire " is my favourite course. Its nothing like the pga at all. The Warwickshire has lots of great tree lined holes and the greens are easy to read.
Its a fantastic course with a really intimidating opening hole. I would advise you to practice your driving and 3 wood. Greens are massive and makes for easy pitching
 
I love the Warwickshire, played both courses about 4 times each now. The Earls is my favourite, the 16th (I think it was) is one of the most picturesque holes ever, tree lined and beautiful to play on as the sun is going down.

As others have said it's very long and if you're not a big hitter (like me) she's a cruel mistress.

The only thing that's stopped me joining there is they have lots of society days there. One day earlier in the summer we had to wait for 30 minutes on the first tee to tee off as it was so backed up with golfers.

We haven't been back since unfortunately.
 
I played the Kings course the other week in my Nike knock-out 4th round, some really nice holes, especially those you drive over water or lay up to, a little open in places but blind on some tee shots if not played before, some decent doglegs also which I specifically enjoy.

I played at 09.30hrs on a Friday and we sailed around.

When we were walking to the first par3, my opponent showed me what he thought to be the best hole on the Earls, a log narrow tree lined par 4, very Woburn/Centurion like, think it might have been the Si1?

The Warwickshire is very close to me but I've always thought it a resort/corporate type course so never put myself out to play it, I'll definitely be back, I thoroughly enjoyed the whole club & course experience.
 
I played the Kings course recently and it took 5 hrs to get round :angry: personally I hated the course and the blind tee shots get very boring. The 18th has a blind tee shot and a blind approach to the green, lay up area :confused: I can safely say that I will never play it again.

As for the Earls... Its one of my favourites and is truly a fantastic course and a pleasure to play.
 
I've mostly played the Kings and it's a decent course for the price. Nothing fabulous but some nice holes. Played the Earls once but it was in a strong wind and rain, and the length of it got a bit tedious after a while. But would like to try again in calmer conditions.
 
Playing here tomorrow but i don't know which course. After reading the reviews I'm really hoping for low wind and the Earls.

you've not played many courses then because its not a bad course by any means. Was your opinion clouded by a poor round by any chance?

No I'm actually playing very well at the moment thanks and have knocked 2 shots off my HCP in 7 comps this season... I've played some very good courses and this isn't one of them... Blind tee shots become very boring after the 6th time and a round that takes over 5 hours because a load of pissed up idiots are having a party in the 10 groups in front isn't my idea of fun. Like I said the Earls course is great and is one of my favourite but I can't see me ever playing the Kings again.

The earls is my favourite but would happily play the kings. It can be a little bland at times but certainly challenging. I certainly wouldn't class it as a poor course IMO.

How players are behaving in front of you leading to a slow round has no baring on the quality of course! Also blind tee shots can be quite common on a lot of top courses, as long as their are target markers to drive at I don't see the problem personally, but again I ask, not how your playing currently, but did you have a poor round that day which has contributed to your decision because I have played a substantial amount of more coursed than you and i think its pretty decent.
