Hi all, I noticed Satchfan said he gave up for 30 years. Mine wasn’t quite as bad, only 15 due to the unmentionable word that rhymes with Frank. Just too proud to go to a local pro and get it sorted out. Now I’ve started playing again I curse myself for all the lost years.Any other sob stories of your golf’s demise? :(

I nearly quit for the same reason. Had a strong word with myself, got to the root of the problem and it was the easiest thing in the world to fix. I laugh about it now but the franks nearly made me sell all my gear.

Smiffy was only saying the other day on here that he sometimes visits the woods during slow rounds for a 'frank'.

So it doesn't have to stop you playing :D

i met thecraw, coincidentally something which also cost me 15 years

Not with golf and sorry to mention cricket, but the same thing happened to me in village knockout quater finals at shipton-under-wichwood in 1999. After quite a fruitfull career as a maedium pacer at club level for 10 years, I crumbled in front of a crowd of 800 or so. I bowled an over which contained 5 wides. I could hear every chuckle and heckle as if I was wearing headphones, I truely crumbled and have never bowled properly since. A massive case of the yips. On the plus side teeing off in front of a couple of 4balls on a saturday has never phased me too much.

My uncle was an England B darts player at the time of Bristow, Lowe etc back in the late 70's and was doing great on the Superleague circuit. Then for no apparent reason he got dartitis and started hitting the skirting board. To his credit he got through it and is back at a good level but has never been the same player.

Loading up my right side during the backswing cost me 15 years, I feel your pain.

I actually quit for 7 years after a round which contained about 50 shanks, it wasn't the shanks that did it though, I was just miffed that I'd spent all those hours practicing and for what? something that I simply wasn't enjoying.

I gave up for about 8 years, but that was because from ages 19-27 birds, drinking and playing in a band was much, MUCH more fun than playing golf :D

I think that we all find that difficult to believe!!

I was scoring quite well when I gave up completely at the age of 19. Started at 13 years old and spent every spare minute playing. Junior member, junior club secretary, loads of competitions and handicap down to 7 but I found that towards the end it seemed I could not get any better. Managing myself round a course was quite easy, hence plenty of scores in the high 70s, but the fun bit, hitting big drives and nice irons off the middle, was never there enough so I packed it in.

It was only this summer that my wife suggested I took it up again. Apparently, I needed the exercise. So it was down to the shops and got my set of Pings (according to this forum I am now old enough to use them) and I have never had so much fun. Cannot believe how far I can hit the ball now. Just need to eliminate the two or three clunks every round and I will be a very happy old bunny.

Confront the word....took me two years and in hindsight it was so obvious what i was doing swing wise..... :eek:still throw the odd one in for old times sake but quickly get it out of my game.
