Had a round after work tonight with a friend and on the third he topped his drive about 120 yards. No bother, but we had a guy behind so we waved the fella through. We both watched on as the guy hit an absolutle peach of a drive which looked like it was going to be huge....only for it to clatter into the marker post in the middle of the fairway, ricochet off at a backwards angle, with the ball ending up in the rough. :o

I've never seen a more unfortunate result to a shot. We waited for the guy so that we could pass on our comiserations and when we asked him "what are the odds of that happening" he said, "very rare, I hardly ever hit them straight". We then told him what had happened and his face was a picture. Think he'd hit it, seen the flight, picked up his tee, and missed the marker post take a direct hit!!

So, what's the worst bit of luck you've experienced on the course?!

Eww thats awful luck, I cant think of a shot ive been that unlucky but related to bad luck, a few years ago on a very hot day i untucked my shirt from my pants on the 5th of our local course and wafted in some much needed air, tucked in back in, felt a tickle on my belly than bang, a wasp had got in and stung me. DOH!

Playing at Crans Montana few years ago and on the 16th hit my tee shot right edge of fairway and was walking up to it to see group in front pointing at a tree stump, it had popped into the hollowed out stump so unplayable .....

Done a similar thing at Ashbury hotel down in Devon last year. :) :) its a hole that goes very slightly uphill and then down, and it has a viewing post so that you can see if the coast is clear. There is me thinking YES :( :(.
When we got down there we found my ball under the lip of the right hand bunker

Par 3, 160 yards... hit a 7 iron and the ball finished 1cm from the hole.

Ill never forget it until I get one in!!

simular to alex, 130 yard par 3 into a slight head win, picked up a few nearest the pins there this year and fancied this one, cream of a 9i, straight at it, the ball was so close it was over hanging the hole, 1cm more and she was down, so close but yet so far.

Hole in one count still remains at the big 0

I was playing a scratch tournament, not doing badly and hooked one into some trees. Lie was fine but branches in front and green 170yds away meant I had to hit a very low scuttler to try and bounce and roll it onto green. Nailed it, couldnt have hoped for more as it shot out a few feet off the ground and is heading to left side of green. It lands and skips forwards and hit one of those small push in the ground signs "trolleys this way", ball shoots left, bounces up a path and with its final hop goes into a bush OOB. Things went somewhat downhill after that :)

A while ago I was playing quite well hitting my driver nicely, got to a par 5 and let rip, best drive of the day, arrow straight on the second bounce it went off at a right angle into the trees.
Picked my jaw off the floor and set off to find it, had to chip out from behind a tree, duffed it up and took another 2 shots to get back on the short stuff.
I then picked up my ball ( was just a knock about ) and found red paint on the ball, walked back up the fairway to find the 200 marker was painted red and had a nice ball shaped mark dead centre.
