I played The Surrey National GC in Chaldon on Saturday. Got a Groupon deal, £15 for unlimited golf and a bucket of 60 x range balls. (Note: normally £50 per round as a visitor on the weekends).

Really enjoyed it, to be honest the greens were a little bumpy, but for the time of year the course was in good nick.

Problem - too many blind tee shots and approach shots. You really need to play it more than once. We all enjoyed it, but it is a tough course for a first time player. Serious advice, buy a Stroke Saver with pictures of the holes before you play. SkyCaddie gives yardages, but comes nowhere near describing the trouble.

Bunkers, water, OB all over the place - from blind play positions. I could have saved half a dozen shots if I had been able to apply course management.

So just a tip if anyone else from the SE gets a chance to play there.
