The staff in AG.

Actually, one thing I will say in their favour is that he did "price match" the two MPT-11's that I bought.

Because I was buying two, he knocked ten quid off each club making it a total of £160 instrad of £180, so that was good. But for help on club selecting they are absolutely useless.

Please dont take this the wrong way but they can get away with being rubbish because you still make the purchase

I have heard so many negative comments about AG that I would not use them

I know what you're getting at, but in this instance, I had no choice. I had £80 worth of AG vouchers to use and the wedge I was swapping came from AG, so I could only exchange it in AG.

Everything I normally buy either comes from online or my pro shop.

You did well then to get a further reduction if you had a voucher maybe they are not all bad

The bloke was really nice and I appreciated the discount he gave me...

My original point was that I don't like the way he tried to push the Vokey's at me because "they're the best".

Luckily I know a bit about golf equipment, but had my Mrs. gone in there to buy me a present she'd probably have walked out with a Vokey because she was told "they're the best".

Playing Devil's advocate - perhaps they're his personal choice of wedge and seeing as you were interested in another premium wedge, he thought he'd push his personal choice?

From a sales perspective, it would appear that you were going to buy, maybe he was just chancing his arm???

Yea, I see what you're saying, but in context of our conversation and the way he was pushing it, it wasn't a "have you thought about the Vokey wedges? They're the ones I use and have done for years, as nothing that I've tried has come close"...It was more "I've read on the internetz that Vokeys are the best, so it must be true" type thing.

I may have misunderstood his intentions and would hold my hand up if I did, but it's not the first time it's happened.

When I was looking for a driver (before I knew of peoples woes with AG) I went in looking with a budget of around £150. I knew this would only get me a "budget" driver or a reduced "top brand" one that was last year's (or last week's if you're TM) technology.

I told the bloke this, and all the ones he was recommending were the latest Pings and Nike's that were upwards of £300. :D

I noticed that the SQ Dymo's were on offer for £99, so asked to try one, and the bloke's response was "year, they're old technology now, so not the best, but you can try it if you want". :D

I was in the Preston store today and the service was awful. I was swaping a pair of shoes I got for christmas, stood around the shoe section looking, thinking someone would be over, after 10 minutes I went looking found someone, the guy got me one pair to try on then dissapeared never to be seen again.

I'ts like all the big stores, they have massive pulling power and can give their customers good deals thats why we go back.

I for one dont go to be served like a king, I go to get a good deal.

I have to disgagree with you, Redwood.

I phoned them yesterday to discuss price matching a set of R9's (£299 - golfdepot.co.uk), as I also wanted to try them again before buying.

The lad I spoke to was very helpful and checked that the other place was legit (from their point of view) before agreeing or declining (the latter, as he didn't have them in stock). He then gave me a couple of other branches numbers to try them.

I bought a bag from them also, and again, happy to price match and let me tinker with a couple of bags, including wheeling in my trolley to see how they sat on it!

I guess it's luck of the drawer as to which assistant you get!

I agree, it probably all does depend on who you get.

I guess the point I was trying to make is that whilst they may be helpful, and are willing to price match (obviously the company policy as it is with others such as Nevada Bobs) I have found their knowledge of golf equipment not to be that great.

Admittedly, I don't use them as much as I used to, but the few occasions I have been in there recently I've found their staff to be the same as when I used to be in there twice a week. Just my personal experience of course.

I did buy a Sun Mountain bag there once myself. ;)
