Putting the Open to one side, I think you need to look at the power the R&A has not only globally but at grass roots level in this country and how it is working hard with other parties to develop and grow the game. It has to be admired for the work it does. Add in being the custodians of the rules of golf (at least this side of the pond and arguably globally except for the US) and the R&A does a lot of good
