Technically? It’s different on a fairly “technical” point that unlike Ireland the USA was its own country having won its independence 80+ years before The Open was conceived.

It seems trivial but it’s a completely different circumstance.

I'm surprised the Open has never been played in Brunei. It only gained independence in 1984, that's over a hundred years of Open history when Brunei was part of Britain
