The Open Championship 'must have's'...

What time should I get there? Traffic wise I know could be hell, but I only live a 45 minute drive away and want to be there literally as the gates open. I thought set off at 5.30am to get there for 6.15am as the gates open at 7am on the Monday, and on the Friday set off at 4.30am to get there for 5.15am and the gates open at 6am first tee off being 6.30am. Do these sound good?

Some great advice already.

Although the merchandise is pricey, I would recommend buying one small souvenier if it's your first Open - e.g. ball marker or pitch mark tool.

Apart from that, get there as early as you can, and stay until the final group has finished. Have a great time! :)

I've never had any problems with the traffic at Lytham, Birkdale and Hoylake.

I've just followed the road signs which will take you to a large playing field then from there you'll find free buses travelling to and from the course.

The whole day usually seems to run like clockwork, unlike most sports events.
