The Open: BBC Coverage

One of the great things about golf on the beeb was Peter Alliss, his humour and anecdotes, unfortunately I think it's time he considered calling it a day.

BBC coverage is so much more enjoyable than Sky's. I love absolutely everything about it, whereas I find Sky's to be very boring and sterile.

Take away the pointless slow mo's with dubbed music of players walking and pulling clubs out of the bag, remove Jesse James depressing tone and Peter "Past it" Alliss then I wouldn't mind the bbc coverage.

The fact they follow anyone and everyone is great but the above really puts me off, much prefer Sky to be honest from that point of view

I haven't read all of the comments on the thread but seriously are we ever happy on here? It's great for the people who don't have Sky to be able to watch the Open (I do have Sky so not a problem for me)

Agree with this, seeing some golf on the BBBC is better than no golf at all.[no sky either].

I think the Beeb's coverage is very good. No adverts which is a huge plus for me, although I admit the slow motion bits are surplus to requirements.

thats when you make tea, or have a comfort break..................The Beeb are back in town:thup:

Let's be honest, as someone pointed out in another thread, hour upon hour of stroke play golf, especially the first round of a championship, is a bit boring to watch even for hardened golf devotees. And there's only so much you can do to try and make it exciting.

For those moaning about them showing Tiger too much, I'd hazard a guess they are doing that because he's Tiger Frikkin Woods, probably the most famous golfer ever to most people today. So he's someone the more casual viewer will want to see.

Only a recent subscriber to Sky and grateful that BBC are covering The Open. If you compared what you paid each broadcaster for the coverage then the BBC works out as better value for money. Providing 11 hours of uniterrupted coverage is not easy when there are periods throughout the day when not much is happening. Sky will either go to a commercial break or to a studio discussion. BBC has to be more creative in filling in those gaps. The coverage is provided by the same technical crews whether its BBC or Sky that you are watching. Compare the £12 a month TV license with the £30+ subscription with Sky. If you were paying the BBC the same amount then there maybe grounds for a grumble. So far I have enjoyed the slower pace of coverage rather than watch a shot or putt then go to a commercial break. I have enjoyed Radio Five Live coverage when I haven't been able to see a TV set. Others have already mentioned they have being viewing online. Pretty good for just a few pence a day.
