The Open: BBC Coverage

At least BBC have their own commentary team out on the course and don't pay to air the rights from another media source. (COUGH,COUGH).....SKY

That are probably a million times more professional and interesting than the BBC mob!

+1. Watching it at work during my lunch break. Enjoying Curtis Strange as part of the commentary team - dovetailing quite well with Mark James.

I'm afraid Mark James is in my 'why did they pick him' category! It even sounds like he's speaking through his mo! Curtis is is at least reducing the amount I need to hear - and it's indeed interesting to hear his comments.

Is there any commentary on the golf that is taking place? The last hour has been two old blokes down the pub rambling on about everything but the play.

The coverage is awful, but its all there is.

Admittedly I am lying on the settee feeling rather delicate post Madness gig (and beers) and grumpy as we currently have no hot water and British Gas are late but I am finding the commentators irksome and the camera work as shaky as my hands typing this. Sky coverage is just streets ahead.

I've watched it all morning and really not impressed. Like the BCC in general it seems to be trying to be all things to all people and the coverage seems diluted and confused. Not happy

Not fussed about either sets of commentators/presenters... Watch a lot of Sky coverage with sound on minimum... On course camera operators and technical crews would be from same pool of folk irrespective wether its the Beeb or Sky broadcasting it...

I haven't read all of the comments on the thread but seriously are we ever happy on here? It's great for the people who don't have Sky to be able to watch the Open (I do have Sky so not a problem for me)

+1 Mark James is golf's equivalent of Brendan Foster. Knows his stuff but painful to listen to.

Oops PhilM - 'third of the greens are dead' as picture goes and 'PM dragged away for a ticking off from the R&A' Nice comment from Mark James I think

Why are they not showing all the players I don't recall seeing Jason Day once I know he finished plus two bt we struggled with Mcilroy going plus 8, also still no sign of Rickie Fowler, Manasserro, barely any coverage of johnsons full group either.

And another Alliss-ism (post-lunch) when correctly describing the 4th as a great Par 3. 'Of course, they're all good. There's only 3 of them here of course' Oops!

Ha, just before they swiftly cut away from the pharmacist demonstrating why he is having so many men visiting his trailer.

WTF is Peter Allis on about now "Harry Vardon would have loved it here today"

He's now like a senile old Granddad who sits in a chair in the corner and rambles to himself.

Still like him though.

The BBC coverage is appalling. Seems to be only the Tiger Woods group on the course at the moment. Was the same last year. The occasional glimpse of other players in between Tiger choosing clubs, scratching his backside or walking up the fairway

And this is different to Sky's coverage how??????
