Slow play , the sort to be criticised,is time wasting. Doing things you shouldn’t, not doing things you should ( soon enough), and generally faffing about.I'm not sure 'slow players' had that much of a part to play in yesterday pace though
Other parameters that cause going around slower (than some others) isn’t culpable, as some go on about.
E.g. A professional will be slower putting than most mid cap amateurs.
They look at the putt from every which way, etc, and rightly, because it’s their livelihood.
I had a putting lesson on the course from the club pro. He was telling me to look at the putt from this angle, that angle , backwards sideways etc .
I thought, “ if we all did that for every putt , God knows when we’d finish”
But, from his point of view, it’s what’s needed to do his best to win.
I don’t know anyone in our Seniors competitions who I’ve played with who takes the same length of time preparing to putt, as I see the professionals on the telly.
So, to my mind, what is happening at Portrush isn’t ‘slow play’. It’s the way it is.
