The Open 2025.

The course looks fantastic, I’d love to play it. Some of the open venues (ie. Hoylake) look quite bland to my eye, even though I’m sure it’s great to play. Royal Portrush just looks fantastic from every angle.

In my teenage years, I used to holiday up near to Giants Causeway every year with a big family friend group, and i would always look at Portrush longingly out of the window as we drove to some of the par 3 courses nearby. It’s a lovely part of the world.

It is a lovely part of the world, sadly at 420 a round I think I'll give it a miss.

I played it with a member a few days after the last Open there in 2019. It was a beautiful day, the stands were still in place and the course was pristine. From memory it cost me £15 😮, now that’s what you call a bargain.

Oooh lovely , now that is a result.

Never a fan of The Open joining in with the featured group stuff

Should be a random draw - it’s lazy and just allows the coverage to focus on a few groups

No a random draw would be rubbish. More more interesting to follow a featured group. They usually cluster the popular groups together which is better viewing (both on the course and on tv).

When did it stop being a random draw? 1890's?

Really?
Westwood group, 5hrs 25 mins
Any mention of pace of play on commentary?
To be fair it's the Open
They are not going to play ready golf, walk onto the green and hit a 30 footer down to 3 ft and walk up and try a tap it in.
Also the rough in places is brutal and I've seen the best in the world have trouble to get it out sidewides onto the fairway.
If they were playing my course at 6000 yards in a relaxed friendly round they would be round in sub 4 hours

It's also raining and that always adds time trying to keep things dry
And the caddies are having to rake the bunkers - there's Jo designated bunker raker following each group this year.
It all adds a bit here and there.
Still too slow though.
