The Masters... Your Views

I think a lot of people forget that Westwood was two shots shy on his final round of becoming the first person ever to score all four rounds sub 70 at the Masters and even if he had accomplished that feat he still would have finished second.

Some times you have to just stand back and applaud. Mickelson could have ended up in the burn on 13th or stuck in the woods. He took the risk and hit the shot that won him the Masters. The missed eagle putt didn't matter as much as he would have been buzzing after that six iron. Simply amazing.

Some of the best golf I have seen recently. Great for the game to have Tiger back and I didn't feel that he overshadowed proceedings.
With 9 holes to play, at least 6 players were still in contention of winning it. Phil held his nerve and played some truly ballsy shots to deservedly win. Who wasn't moved by the image of him and his wife at the end?

Unlucky again for Lee but surely his time will come, I feel it's just a matter of time. He was steady throughout.

Also to have an English 1-2 after 2 rounds is a indication that we really can compete on the world stage.

I see England forming the backbone of the Ryder Cup team for a few years to come and can't wait for October.

Seeing Couples and Watson competing against the young guns just goes to once again prove the old adage that "class is permanent" Freddy Couples coming so close whilst playing with an injury is just remarkable.

This Major has set the benchmark this year, and I'm so looking forward to St Andrews!!

Some of the golf on display last night was breathtaking the shot from Mickelson on 13 was amazing and almost Seve like, he knew he had enough club to clear the creek but pulled it a bit ,some pull tho.

Lee Westwood not the greatest day for him his driving seemed to let him down for once, but fair play to him he kept smiling which at times in this game we don't see much of.If he keeps getting into position its going to happen sooner or later,as for bottling it not a chance Phil Mick just played emense golf.

Great to see Freedie Couples in the hunt ,he looked like he was on holiday the way he was cruising around, Anthony Kim love him or hate him he made some run on the back 9 as for Tiger he's still the man to beat IMO,he hit some ropey shots and still finished 4th says it all really .

Although the Masters isn't may favourite Major it was great to watch roll on St Andrews for some real golf :)

PS. Neil you are a jammy get ,but good luck and enjoy.

I didn't notice a significant change in Tiger Woods' behaviour. Whilst I would have liked him to win it's probably better for the history books that he didn't.

Mickelson: - hugely deserved victory, and as always, very gratious.

Westwood: Hugely likeable, hugely talented, and only the pressure of winning his 1st Major perhaps prevented the 69 he needed.

Woods: A mixed bag of brilliance and rubbish, and undoubtably he will continue to be the one to beat for a few years yet.
However, he hasnt changed at all, and is still as dislikeable as he was, period.
I didnt see much to suggest he has become 'more endearing' to anyone.

I agree Woods should have burst into song after every miss hit shot and missed putt, maybe something current but not to poppy, because being the greatest golfer ever to walk the earth is not enough for some people to like him.

Tiger will be gutted to hear you still don't like him

I thought it was fantastic viewing made even better by the BBC commentary team.

I love listening to Pater Alliss especially. I was in tucks hearing him talk about thinning one through the clubhouse window when Mickelson played that huge flop from the back of 18 on Saturday.

For all Mickelsons birdies and eagles, in my opinion what won it for him was the 3 consecutive up and downs from 8 to 10. Every one of them I was convinced he was going to let Westwood in and every time he'd pull off a perfect pitch shot after squirting the ball forward from the trees after a wayward tee shot.

Considering how he played off the tees yesterday it's testament to his short game and temperament that he didn't have a single dropped shot in the final round.

Echo some of the comments already - brilliant four days of golf. The Masters / Augusta National Committee get full marks for the way they set up the course - great to see so much attacking golf and players getting the rewards they deserved for their play. As John_Findlay posted - they have the recipe back! Watching the coverage over the last few days and hearing virtually non-stop cheers from the crowd was great. Now they should be urged to not do anything drastic next year and keep the course the way it is. In all, a brilliant first Major - cannot wait now for the next three.

Higlights of the tournament itself? Too many to mention, but to see Westwood play fantastically well for three days (and Poulter for two) was pleasing, but also very dissappointing that neither could sustain it for the full four rounds and provide us with another European / British winner. Although to be fair to Westwood, he was just beaten by a guy who played fantastic golf. And what a performance from Matteo Manasero as well - 16 years old and playing like that round Augusta? The impertinance of youth!!! Honourable mentions to Watson and Couples for rolling back the years.

Which brings me onto the other European hopefuls. Yet another Major goes by with the usual reports in the media, and quotes from the players themselves, as to how good their chances are. And yet again failing to deliver when it matters most - think I'll leave it at that!

As for Tiger - great to see him back and in contention. Ultimately though I think being away from competitive golf for so long did for him in the end. As for his statements of being a changed man, I think the jury is still out as far as I am concerned. Started the week pretty well with his press conference, but then missed a trick by not playing the par 3 contest. Followed that up with that strange and ridiculous advert, and a number of tantrums and spitting on the course. Probably best that he takes some more time out. I for one would like to see him concentrate on being Tiger the golfer (and family man) again rather than the corporate monster. Please let us have Tiger the man again and not the brand.

Final thoughts must go to the (thoroughly deserving) winner. Needed something special to deny Westwood, and Mickelson produced that. All the furore over Woods meant that the battles the Mickelson family have been fighting over the last year or show were overshadowed. I think Mickelson showed pre, during and post Masters what a class guy he is both on and off the course, and it was lovely to see his family there at the end to share in his moment of triumph.

A Totally awe inspiring tournament..

Happy for Phil and his family to have some good news after an extremely tough year He played Ok i think Lee played better but phil took his chances when they where gifted. Great to see tiger back, a wee bit of rust but nothing a few tourneys wont solve. A great performance from mannassero, what a brilliant performance from one so young.

Too many other great names to mention a top class event...

I thought he put peter costis in his place last night when he was asked why he looked so cross the first few holes? Tiger said you guys are making wey to big a deal of this what you want be to look like when i play bad all happy.

Some of tigers shots throughout the week where totally mind boggling and he was eaqually as good as phil he just never got the breaks in the trees...

I agree watched the interveiw and thought if it was me he may have been wearing my putter for asking such stuid questions, Tiger owes us nothing.

Agree Phil was so lucky especially on 10 it was as in someone had cut a route out for him and everytime he had a shot.

"Tiger owes us nothing"

You see, thats the problem, as in actual fact, "Tiger Woods owes the game everything"

A brilliant talent that has been rewarded financially by both the game, in Prize Money, and the paying public for paying to come to watch, and most importantly, the Sponsors who have paid him unbeleivably as a result.

Bashing his Driver down onto the immaculate Tees is not the mark of a 'Great', nor is shouting 'Jesus Christ" after you've smashed it into the Trees, or looking as miserable and petulant as he does after every 'average' shot, and as for those crouch over and 'feel sorry for me moments' on the greens after a 6'er misses, its embarrasing.

The Guy is capable of great things, but he's an absolute @rse in almost every other respect, and where it not for the Gravy Train that surrounds him, and keeps the PGA hostage, he 'should' be taken to task and put straight on a few things.

Quite sad really.

Looking forward to seeing your smiling face as you miss a 6 footer.....

When Tiger was winning everything in sight, all his fans said he was superhuman. Now he has been caught with his trousers down (metaphorically and literally), he is back to being "just human" again?

The stuff about changing behaviour was just part of his fake insincere press campaign and has simply been exposed as another lie more quickly than we would have expected.

The sponsors you talk of have paid Tiger well but they are businesses who have user Tigers image to sell things and make money they haven't just given him the cash, I am sure all Tigers sponsors have made money on him especially Nike who have built there golf arm around him. Sponsorship is a gamble and sponsors are not innocent parties they are trying to use him or profit.
I would also bet that Tiger has brought ten times the money to golf that he has taken and would say "he owes me nothing" and IMO he owes golf nothing.
