The Masters 2026

That is just an incredible back 9 from Rory. Laid waste to the field. It’s almost too cliche to say he’s playing like a man who is now free of that crushing pressure; playing with total freedom, but, well, he is!!!

Do we think two rounds in the 60’s gets it done? I hope Rory stays aggressive as that’s when he’s at his best.
You would have to think so
It would put him 18 under as a minimum meaning that the chasers will need 63s and 64s to catch him.
Not beyond the realms of possibility but unlikely

And just when we were in for an interesting Masters, with it playing firm and fast, they go and water the absolute crap out of the greens 🙄

Roll-on Shinnecock and the USGA👍🏻

Unless the conditions become more suitable for low scoring I don't see anyone else beating 12 under, so 2 level par rounds will likely see him become only the 4th to go back to back at The Masters.

Apart from the record 36 hole lead
And the possibility of a record win
And the possibility of joining the small list of players to retain their Green Jacket.

There is another record that I hope Rory doesn’t achieve.

I’m hoping that Greg Norman’s bottle busting record stays intact.

Rory needs to keep playing as he is, if he gets conservative and starts playing par golf it’s easy to put in a couple of +2 rounds, but having said that, it’s going to take some very good scores to catch him

Yep as a rory fan this is like best case but also worst case scenario

Completely in his hands is not where I want his head to be 😂

Two rounds of 72 gets it done from here. Two rounds in the 60s and we're into record winning margin territory.

  • Nobody else has managed to average better than -3 a round over the first two days, and simple probability suggests that the top scorers on day1/2 are very unlikely to be the top ones on day 3/4.
  • The course isn't going to be made any easier over the weekend. With a 65 and a 66 being shot yesterday, there's no way they'll be lobbing the water on.
  • So combine these and it's pretty unlikely anyone else gets to -12

That said, it's impossible to be bogey-free for 36 holes round a firming-up Augusta (and it's going to be pretty difficult to be double-bogey free) so the only way to shoot a pair of 72s or better is to continue hunting birdies rather than go defensive. Rory is also in the perfect psychological position to keep going positively and not tensing up; last year of course was the complete opposite.

I think this is key IMO, he just needs to carry on and don’t change the game plan. I think the worst thing he could do now is to try and keep what he has and to play defensively. Just doesn’t play to his strengths. Just get out there and smash it around the park and he’ll get the job done.
