The Masters 2026

I must be one of the only golfers that really doesn’t have the slightest interest of going to Augusta. I’ve attended the Open and Ryder cup they were fantastic, love to go to a US Open as it’s one of my favourite tournaments to watch. But Augusta just doesn’t do it for me, I’ll watch the tournament I always do, but I just don’t get the fawning over it as a Venue.

Was literally typing about this as you posted 😂 Tiger has confirmed he’ll be playing tonight in the TGL, admittedly that’s not a full tournament round of golf but it does suggest he’s well enough to hit balls properly at speed. Does it raise the question of if he plays the Masters? Absolutely it does.

Do I think he will play the Masters? If this evening goes well and he’s pain free I think he plays in it. If he does I hope he gives a good showing makes the cut and has a respectable but more importantly pain free week.

Interesting also he confirmed recently he has ambition to play in the US Senior Open, as he wants to be the first man to have held USGA national titles at every age group/level from Junior, Amateur, Pro and Senior. It suggests there is still a fire there to compete and he still has goals to achieve. I just hope he can do it all healthily, pain free and not impacting his life.

You are not the only one, It seems to me that (rightly or wrongly) its one of those tournaments that has disappeared up its own hype and mythos

I agree if tonight goes well in a semi competitive environment and is unscathed then the reps will increase behind closed doors gradually enough to be fit enough (ANGC is hillier than you see on tv 😉😂)

As a chaser of records he absolutely wants to win the US senior open to not only complete the set but to stand alone with most USGA titles.

I think to reach 83 though it’ll need to be a lowkey regular field event or the Zurich classic to lean on a teammate to an extent.

It’s the faux traditions, the fawning over every hole as if it’s the only course in the world that everyone should not want to play but feel privileged to play and I just don’t think apart from maybe 4 holes the course looks that good !
I’ll watch it and I enjoy it , but the hype and fawning over it created by Sky is nauseating

It’s still below The Open and US Open for me
I don’t think it’s just Sky a lot of that hype is created by Augusta themselves putting themselves on a pedestal of elitism and then getting the likes of sky to drool over it.

But like you I’ll watch and I’ll enjoy the golf played. I also agree it’s below both Opens for me they’re the pinnacle of golf and the majors.

So it is a goat track then 🐐😂

I would love to see him do it. As much as the Masters is my least favourite major seeing Tiger win in 2019 was one of sports truly iconic moments and comebacks.

Added some final names to our betting pool, we now have:
Fitzgerald - outright to win
P. Reed - Top 5 finish
E/W either top 8 or top 10:
Aberg
Bhatia
Koepka
Rose
Penge
Tommy
Tyrell

I'm quietly comfortable that we are making a small donation to the bookies on this one. But mayhaps...mayhaps. We got Fitz in before his recent win, so those were good odds.

Any reasons why you haven't gone for any of the big names - Scottie, Rory, BdC, Rahm, etc? Thought these would be fairly safe top 10

You must of got great odds on Fitzgerald? 🤣
That’s a lot of players so I’m sure you will have some interest come Sunday night

There are only 4 Majors a year. Only one stays at the same venue and is the hardest to get into.

A certain level of excitement is understandable if you're interested in golf.

American levels of emotion are quite different from ours. What they see as ok, we see as sickly. 😉

If you don't feel it, that's up to you. We're all wired differently.

is the hardest to get into

But if you’re in, is it the easiest to win? It’s a small field and I always find looking at the field for some bets that it lacks a bit of depth - always find myself wishing there was a few more names.

I love the Masters, it signals the start of the golfing season in the UK, I think Augusta (the golf course) is fantastic but Augusta (the golf club) is a bit of a nonsense. The hype is too much these days. I like how there’s essentially a defined strategy on each hole and it’s semi-relatable to watching/playing golf at your own course, where you understand the good and bad spots and how penalising being short sided is, or above the hole.

The coverage via the app is second to none.

Marco Penge, Justin Rose, Matsuyama. They will be my bets.
