Went play around today, but it was so boggy we ended up on the range. Hitting the ball really well with my self imposed 'fairway'. So I figured that I'd give the new Mizuno MX300 a go from the demo bag.

As reported elsewhere on this forum, I hit the TM TP irons really well at a demo day last year. But the 300s were something else. I don't know what it is about these smaller clubs with their narrower soles, thin top line, smaller heads, a lot less offset, and smaller sweet spot. But I just seem to get on with them. Certainly better than I do with my current set of shovels.

Now having tried the 300's, I've got to forget about them as there is no way I can justify it to the Mrs. I did think about the 'well, I don't need the full set, as I won't be needing the 3 iron or SW' argument. But I know it won't wash!

Back to dreaming! :(

Once you've hit a mizzy, there is no going back, you have been bitten Hapless, you dont have to get new anyway, check out second hand,my Mp60's were pre owned and are as new, lot's of golfers trade in after a few games. You may get a bargain. Keep looking.

Go on ... you know you want too ;)

There is really no doubt that Mizuno make a very good set of irons. If they spent the same amount of promo money as Nike or TM, half the pros on Tour would use them. But that doesn't mean that every amateur who plays them likes them - some choose the wrong iron, and some just prefer shovels.

The MX300 is a really nice iron that has some forgiveness but is good enough to play on tour too.

Irons are probably as good if not better than anyone's but the rest of the stuff lets the side down....most manufacturers want 11/12/13 clubs theses days so Mizuno wouldn't be your 'bag' of choice to just have the irons...

That is true to a certain extent. Mizuno woods have never been as lauded as the irons, but they have been pretty decent, especially the T Zoids and the more recent 600s and now the 630s. Wedges are decent enough too.

Anyway, take a look in some Ping/Titleist/Adams/TM etc players bags these days and you may only see a few of that brand. Most club contracts these days are not 14 club deals.

No....most club contracts ARE 12/13....the ones with mixed bags have now lost their contracts that were dished a few years ago like sweets....

Look at the PING, TM, Nike, Titleist, Callaway players (ie the ones that the top, and the ones with 'talent' that are coming through)...they all have 11, 12, 13 and with TM's putters 14 in the bag....the ones with the mixed bags are the ones have the option because no-one is paying them to do otherwise....

I keep finding myself lured towards trying some Mizzys especially the way HTL is hitting his even with a scaffold pole shaft. They always produce sleek ironf and the fact that the majority of their gear is forged, even their clubs for slightly higher handicappers, is testament to their quality etc. However with my shiny new TP's still on a full battery and a honeymoon period to enjoy with them plus the sanctuary of my R9's to fall back on I think I can keep the urge under control
