Ok we all know how important it is to grip a club properly but how much of an effect has the correct grip got on the outcome of a shot......

I grip mainly in the fingers, that is, when i grip the club i lay it across the base of all my fingers first and then close my hand....Iv read that this grip is a very good grip for power and also for turning the hands through impact....But the downside is that there is a small price to pay for the power in a loss of accuracy....

Contrast this where the club is gripped a little more through the palm than the fingers and it has the opposite effect where you loose a little power and distance for more control and accuracy.....

Has anyone swapped from one to the other or have been thought to grip one way or the other and how has it affected your game....
Is it possible to use both grips from time to time or would i be playing with fire?

i change grip depending on how wild i can go off the tee. i didnt take lessons so i dont have a consistant set up,posture or grip etc. this can get me into trouble some days.

you would be better finding a repeatable grip and swing imo.

munro - whats the craic with you getting a 9 as your first handicap? thats the lowest ive heard anyone getting off the bat !

When i joined Burntisland approx 10 years ago, my first ever handicap was 9.4. I played for 3 years and went up to 10. I took up golf again 2 years ago @ Kingsacre and it was 16. Kingsacre is a lot harder that Burntisland. Playing golf is in my family. What can i say. lol

I played all my life with normal grips but my recent club fitting recommended midsize. They apparently allow my hands to clear much more consistently through the ball.its something I'd never considered before to be honest but the theory makes perfect sense

easy course or not im impressed.

Thx man, all i can say, is don't think to much on the course. Do all your thinking on the practice ground. I find that really helps me. I also play with really low handicap players, i think that helps to make me a better player. If i get my iron play sorted, i will be in single figures soon. Fingers crossed.........

Literally changed my grip from a palm/fingers left hand to a base of fingers left hand just this last week (due to a GM Alvaro Quiros interview in this months GM. Right hand sat along the first finger joint from the hand but changed today to base of fingers which feels very nice, also gripping down the shaft 1.5 inches for better control. Let's hope this works

I changed from a baseball grip to the Vardon grip. It screwed my game up for a while but I knew (for me at least) that it had to be done for me to get lower.

The overwhelming majority of professionals use the Vardon Overlap and a few notable exceptions interlock, ie Woods, Nicklaus, etc.

These grips are designed to optimise power and accuracy, its not one or the other its both.
