Okay, it wasn't really Shakespeare (if, indeed, he even existed...) but it is a question we're addressing in the next issue's 'debate' page.

So you're out on the course, approaching the turn, and there it is - the halfway hut, open and ready for your business. Do you stop or do you walk on past, head down, ready to continue with the serious matter of compiling a decent round? Or does it depend what time of day it is, how well you're playing, whether it's a competitive or friendly round and so on.

Discuss!

friendly 4 ball= always stop and smell the roses
Medal competition= very rarely stop except for essential water or chocolate etc
Match play comp= stop if opponents wish to as I don't want to detract from their gameplan if any.

no i would continue playing as it slows the round down. i carry plenty of water and wee fruit biscuits to keep me fed. perhaps if i was playing abroad i would stop but not in the uk. years ago my gran would make a piece up for me and my papa playing turnberry. i would get a carton of juice and he would have a miniture whiskey. happy days

If there is one, few courses seem to have them, then yes. A cup of coffee and a bacon butty goes down a treat. I think it a good time to relax and prepare for the second half of the round whether it's been good or bad.

Not played many courses that have a half-way house but when I have I'd tend to ignore them unless I was in dire need of chocolate! Not sure why I don't bother but probably because I have enough provisions in my bag to keep me going and can't see the point in getting a bacon butty or coffee just because I can.

The exception might be ladies opens though where a lot of effort has been made to provide home made cakes - would be rude not to partake then !

Depends how good the halfway hut is. Last club that had one was woeful. I wanted a biscuit but decided not too, seeming as the jar it was in was infested with wasps ! I never really tend to go to the halfway hut unless I forgot to have breakfast of it's a hot day etc.

Not really played too many courses with a decent half way hut, but on the ones I have, I usually stop as it means i'm probably on a corporate comp. Ive seen many a senior miss the back 9 because the half way hut is stocked with large amounts of free ale. Personally, a bottle of water and a muesli bar is enough for me as I don't like to stop playing. Especially if i'm playing well.

always stop even if its just to grab a cuppa, mill ride has a great halfway hut, phone on the tee to pre order your stuff, and by the time you have played the par 4 (pretty long hole) its there waiting for ya... spot on.

If the guys in front stop, then every one has to, as it messes up the tee intervals. Simple as. Whether you want o or not is almost irrelevant.

I don't normally bother.

I normally have a whacking great fry up/ breakfast before I play on Saturday mornings and tend not to eat until I get back.

I've only played one course with th halfway house and we didn't stop. It was a family golf day out and the company weren't really that way inclined.

If it had been with my mates we would have more than likely stopped for a beer.

One thing I do like is the continental way. While Golfing in Spain there have been a couple of courses I've played where a "converted golf cart" drives round offering all sorts of delights as you go. You would generally see it a couple of times over the round.

I normally carry on unless there are groups in front that are muching, then you have to wait your turn.

I played at an American air force base in Germany (Ramstein) where you arrive at the tenth tee only to find the group in front of you ordering their cheese burger and fries. The group in front of them are eating theirs, the group in front of them are on seconds and the last group and trying to climb into their buggy to drive the 10 yards to the teebox without spilling their buds.

It was at least a 45 minute wait

I have played a course with a half way hut and the number was on the 9th tee and the hut was on the 10th green. worked really well wasn't at the hut long but it did remove the slow 4 ball in front of us which helped a great deal as they had been holding us up for most of the round.

never played a course with a proper halfway hut, which is a shame, I always thought it'd be good for business. Pay a student/young chap minimum wage to sell overpriced stuff to us golfers, easily cover employment costs!

I play stanley park in Blackpool frequently and only noticed on my last round of the year they have a toilet after the ninth hole...many because we leave the 9th green in a strop!

Friendly game yea stop for bit of something & a bit of banter ,

Comp of any sort definatly not , keep moving & keep the pace ..

Pet hate is if you are playing well & one of the group go up and order something without even asking other players was it ok to stop & wait ,

That would have done my nut in!!!!

I always stop at our half way hut, even if it is only to get a soft drink. On a very hot day it is great to get a cooling ice cream, before they sell out.:whistle:It is also nice to support the lady that runs it, and she always has a few dirty jokes ! Usually have a bacon or sausage sandwich. If I go too long without food I get a migraine, so that's my excuse and I am sticking to it. Does add an extra ten minutes to the round but not bothered, and if the people behind are not stopping we just let them through.

The halfway hut doesn't open on a Tuesday, ladies day, as none of the ladies stop. Their tee is not as close as the mens, at least thirty yards away.:mmm:

If i came to the halfway & the group had stopped id move on to the 10th tee & play off Murph, to me if you stop & the group behind dont want to then swop places on the course . keep it moving ..
