The Halfway Hut - An oasis or an unwelcome distraction?

That depends who I'm playing with. I like to stop and get a cup of tea but I only want to be there as long as it takes to buy it. Some guys seem to want to sit down and have a chat which winds me up.

Why would it wind you up though ?

We have one after the 6th/13th and past 6 months has been run by one of the members who is a + golfer - nice lad! It's open Mon, Wed, Fri and weekends and usually stop of for a welcome coffee although told him to get ice cream for summer! There is a board on the 6th tee with his mobile so you can order your bacon or sausage baps - his are better than the clubhouse fare.

Because I'm there to play golf, not sit down and chat. I don't like stopping while I'm playing.

But it's a social game ? It's part of the whole package of club golf - to have a laugh and enjoyment with your PP and enjoy the banter and craic

And 4 hours on the course and a pint in the bar afterwards isn't long enough to be sociable and have a laugh? Besides, isn't there something in the rules about leaving the course and unduly delaying play?

Might be 5 mins between holes but unless there is a queue behind you or you are holding people up then I can't ever see the issue with groups stopping for a quick bite to eat and a drink and a relax before the second nine - it's a hobby after all

I like a good halfway hut.
But it plays havoc with my game for a couple of holes.
I'd rather keep moving.

A man after my own heart.

Fine if you really need to get food or a drink do so, but why is it then necessary to hang about.

You're right, it's a hobby and one we're all allowed to enjoy the way we want to enjoy it. I don't like stopping, you do. There isn't really much more to say.

But then if people don't want to stop and carry on it doesn't wind me up because I realise people are different - hence why I didn't say I like stopping nor did I say I like to continue - I go with the flow without letting either wind me up. Can't see it ever being something to get wound up about

Playing in a hotel course comp in France with a shotgun start at 8am.

We got to the "turn" at 8.45 where they had set up table with hunks of fresh bread with very rustic garlicky pate.
Only drink on offer was red wine, sloshed into very large plastic cups
Then of course we re-appeared at the table after playing the intervening 9 holes.
I remember very little about the rest of the round

Need I say more?

It's great that they are now opening it everyday:)
what happens after 10 if you fancy a coffee, should open longer hours, doesn't matter were you are make sure they cook the eggs properly, played in a scratch trophy comp at Prestatyn and at the turn had a bacon and egg bap, first bite shirt full of egg,9 holes looking like a homeless tramp not good.

We don't have a halfway house. We did trial a scheme where you could call the kitchen from the 8th tee (yes I know the irony of using a mobile on the course) and pick up your bap or drink as you came round. It seemed to die a death and never used for more than a few months. Personally I'd rather crack on especially if I'm playing well but tend to go with the flow and let others make the decision. I tend not to eat anything although I might have a cold drink if it's hot and a warm one in the winter

Not really something I'd want on my course- it probably wouldn't be used.

I would only want it if playing an Open venue or similar, where it's acceptable to play a long round, soaking up the atmosphere.

It doesn't slow us women down as we just grab it and go. Plus, we'd be in big trouble if we had slow rounds on comp day.

Oh-oh! 2 new threads in one day. People will be talking again:mmm:

Still, what the heck...

Does yours have one and if it does do you like / use it? By that I mean in competitions specifically.

We have a nice one situated just between our 9th green and 10th tee. The perfect spot you say and you'd be right. And it's a very welcome sight indeed when playing friendly roll ups and bounce games. Just the job. Nom! Nom! Nom! as the internet savvy put it.

However it's always open at weekends and that means when participating in a comp you have no option but to avail yourself of a bacon sarnie etc. not unless you ask to play through the group in front (frowned upon).

When having a 'mare' then the hut is perfectly acceptable and sometimes allows you to refocus and maybe aim for the buffer if all's not lost. But if you're "in the zone" and "shooting the lights out", then (for me at least) I could do without the 10 minute break and the possible tensing up and going off the boil that it can lead to.

But, what about you?

Over the collective...
PM's sent, oh and this needed a poll to settle it. Booooooo
