There’s not much rugby in the rugby world cup thread so I thought I’d start separately to see what opinions are on the Haka

I’ve no idea what it all means and don’t really care too much either, I think it’s a great spectacle for an international sporting event and the other pacific nations own ‘displays’ shows its not done just because they’re arguably the best rugby nation although it must give a bit more confidence to perform it if you are

Finally I’d love to see it’s equivalent in the Ryder Cup, can you imagine it ;)

Do you love it or loathe it or not fussed?

Think it's a great ritual seen it live when th NZ airforce did it as we arrived for a hockey tour

Hearing it at Twickenham is powerful

I think the Haka is an attempt to intimidate the opposition. I love it when a team, the French really upset the Kiwis once by doing this, go right into their faces whilst they do it. If the All Blacks can use it to intimidate then the opposition should be able to respond. I think we, the English, are feeble by just standing and watching them do it. Don't give them the upper hand.

In response to your question, I am fine with it but it is a two way thing and the All Blacks have to take it back.

I agree, teams should turn their backs or have a cup of tea or something. I like watching it but they do seem to use it to their advantage. England should get Jeremy Kyle with a microphone to dish the dirt on each opposition player as they walk out :D

Watched a few clips online and see some teams stand, some reply some attempt to disrupt

I'd like to think as the opposition I'd just enthusiastically applaud a good display partly to recognise it for what it was and also to motivate my own team

I think that it is a great spectacle but the All Blacks can get a bit precious about the response to it. Outrage when Cockerill faced down Norm Hewitt on the half way line, disgust if the opposition just ignores it and gets on with their preparation and a lack of respect when greated with a rousing rendition of Swing Low at Twickenham.

It is a great sight, long may it continue but equally the crowd or opposition should be free to react to it in any appropriate way.

Yeah one of the best clips I saw was (I think) Samoa reply with their own, didn't detract or disrupt to the Haka and actually thought it added to the event

I do hope that Twickers do not ban it.
It is a wonderful sight. Very rude of opposition teams to try to disrupt it.

Perhaps England should consider a Morris Dance team display before KO.

It's a great spectacle for the casual watcher, it's really just a bit of tadger waving by the AB's

Don't care for it much myself now, tried to get a big SCOTLAND chant going at Murrayfield last time whilst it was happening, thankfully many Scotland fans joined in.

It's one of the most ridiculous things in sport, you have to stand there while the best team in the world try to intimidate you before each game and you are not allowed to do anything.

Do you ever think before posting ?!

When has there ever been a suggestion of banning it ?!?

I reckon Bin it off, why give a team an advantage with their own pre match ritual which 'gee up' their players.

I have seen it, its quite a spectacle, I have faced one when i played against NZ U21 in a sevens tournament many years ago,
