The Grand National

I've got Shakalakaboomboom, Ballabriggs, According To Pete and Rare Bob.

Don't know why I bothered, hardest race of the year to figure out but hey ho!

I had Sea Bass E/W so got £20 back from a £10 punt, better than nothing!

had £50 on a few horses and won £141, had the winner and 3rd, so got a bit back, although i did have about 8 horses, haha.

*sound of ticket being ripped*

sounded an exciting race on the radio though, had my cash on shakalakaboomboom - just ran out of steam!

I won't bet on horses or dogs. I was listening to 5live the other day and there was a bit about the National and it led to euthanasing horses after a fall and bad breaks etc. The point made by Clare Balding was that it really is the best option because injuries lead to worse things etc etc. One of the other pundits remarked that when Muamba collapsed on the pitch the other week and if he hadn't survived football would carry on and that when Marco Simoncelli died in a motorbike race last year that motor sport goes on etc. That's a fine analogy BUT Simoncelli and Muamba chose to be there at those times.

If someone asked you "Hey on Saturday afternoon you fancy sprinting 5 miles carrying an extra 20% in weight whilst jumping over a shootload of fences that are taller than you? Oh yeah if you fall over we might have to kill you" What would you say? I know I wouldn't do it, so why expect a horse to?

And we have all seen what happens when a horse doesnt want to run.....it just stops and theres not a jot the little man on his back can do about it. These horses are bred for racing and they love it, thats why many of them continue to run even after the jockey has fell off, and did you see how restless they were after the false start? they were desperate to get going because they enjoy it..

Yes its sad to see such a powerful animal get injured and be put down but its part of the sport, they wouldnt even be born if it wasnt for racing.

And by the way how the hell did Sunnyhill Boy not win that? £10 at 16/1 and beat by a nose hair:rant:

The sooner the National is stopped the better, another 2 horse deaths this year. What other "sport" has such a fatality rate for it's competitors? and this common misconception that horses continue running and don't refuse jumps because they like it....horses are herd animals. They run with the herd out of fear. Thankfully there is a growing public outcry about the animal welfare issues of this outdated "sport" and together with the whip ban the HRA are coming under increasing scrutiny from the general public.

Check this site out for a casuality list of said sport.

www.horsedeathwatch.com - ps. contains a disturbing image so don't look if squeemish!

I won't open the link as cried watching it and swore never again - I hate it and wish it was stopped too or made less dangerous. Horses dying in the name of sport (aka gambling) is dreadful and very very sad.

These horses are bred purely for racing, no racing = no horses

I look forward to your link campaigning for stopping sport fishing, or is that ok as carp, perch etc arent quite as beautiful as a horse;)

Hate the grand national with a passion won't entertain watching the race I hate seeing a great animal fall and knowingly get put down is out of order just let them run with no hurdles
