for all Madrid's first half uselessness....on any other day Mbappe could have had three or four goals.

That was probably the best game I've watched this season. All the big names, two different styles and amazing football.

Bayern totally dominated for the first 60 and played some unbelievable football. Missed some very good chances but Real were so impressive on the break. The second leg will be a cracker.

Nice thinking but it would actually devalue it in reality. It may have the Champions in it but a lot will be from smaller countries and the lesser European comp will have much stronger line up and competition. To get the competition to 32 sides you'd have to put in the winners of leagues like Ireland, Northern Ireland, Latvia etc. As a result the vast majority of games would be walkovers and the top sides would just put out reserve sides. If you make it a smaller comp, say 8 teams it would be such a short comp it would become a farce.
It just needs the name changing then, since it's not in fact the champions from each nation. They could call it, I dunno, 'The European Cup' or something like that.

This was a big debate back in the early 00's but the Champions League morphed into a brand decades ago. With all the tacky sponsorship of various cups, it's actually quite refreshing to see it still have the same name and it hasn't been changed to The 'Tesla Cup' or Riyadh Tropy' 😅

Way things are going it'll be the Trump Champion's League next year. (Trumpion's League?)

Not sure I entirely agree with that sentiment, but if that were the case then the Champions league as it is should end and be revamped into something more suitably names because potentially having 7 teams from one country shows how poor it’s already become and there’s nothing “Champion” about it.
