Not sure giving massive contracts to ageing players because “they’ve earned it” is a great business model in football.
For that sort of salary I would expect him to do Brain transplants on his day offGiven what he’s doing (compared to others) he’s worth it.
Chatter here is there after Van De Ven.!Talk seems to be that the club didn’t seem him as value at the wages and costs etc
It’s very risky to go through the rest of the season with just the two main CBs
Guess the rest of the season will be trying to sort out a contract for Konate
Some sense! Not sure giving massive contracts to ageing players because “they’ve earned it” is a great business model in football.
Well atm we need to compete with the top clubs.
£300k sounds a bargain given them salaries.
Some nonsense!Hopefully Konate signs a LONG contract![]()
A bit of an extreme, and not great, example.Last sentence, totally agree with. Sometimes fans get so wrapped up in there clubs being massive because they were. As we all know football was invented when the premier league started
Teams like Huddersfield who won three in a row are they still massive, as are “The Wednesday” and Preston North End. Am certainly not dissing these teams or Ipswich, Derby or Burnley who both had the same amount of titles as City had before Sheik Mansoor turned up with his wallet.
But times change. Some fans blinkered views don’t.![]()

I agree it’s crazy, but he’s consistently producing. For that sort of salary I would expect him to do Brain transplants on his day off![]()
Jeez that’s overpaid.I agree it’s crazy,but he’s consistently producing.
I think it’s crazier that Sterling is on £325k
Who would be your first choice ?
That’ll be a big win.In other news…. West Brom 0 - 2 Boro!
But the point made by me was fans perspective of there big clubs, even though they have not done anything for a generation plus.A bit of an extreme, and not great, example.
Huddersfield only ever won 3 titles, the last being a century ago.
If Man Utd, Liverpool, City, Arsenal, etc fail to win a title in 100 years, and spend significant periods in the lower leagues in that time, then most of us agree they'll be small fry in the year 2126. However, who cares, no one here will be around to reminice how good we once were.
Although the advantage the big clubs now compared to the best clubs a century ago is a huge wealth gap and massive domestic and global exposure. So none of those clubs are likely to become "small" clubs anytime soon.
You’re not going to get top proven players that are the best in Europe in their position for £20m unless they’re at the end of their contract.
Unless you’re Real Madrid, they know a player will run their contract down to join them.
If City knew that Guehi would definitely join them in the summer on a free they’d probably have held on.
But for £20m was it worth the gamble.
Personally I think it’s a good deal for City,Palace & Guehi.
Tbf they only paid that so he could play in the Club World Cup.Madrid did get a bargain in Trent for only £10m just a week before his contract was up
Define massive or big etc, some of these so called “lesser” clubs have fantastic history’s and should be rightly proud of it and celebrate it accordingly.Last sentence, totally agree with.
