So my take on Guehi.
City have been racked by injuries to what have been major players. Stones Diaz, Gvardiol Amongst others. We are paper thin in that position. If them three are fit happy days.
Stones is gone at the end of the season. Ake possibly gone. So we are left with young centre half’s. And they have been very very good.
So chuck in those two with Guehi and some of the others and City have a young defence That can be quick and solid for the next five years. A defence that has not cost a fortune. 👍

All these top class managers who won't touch Man Utd simply because of the mess they are in, mustn't be very good at all.

After all, there is so much room for improvment, you'd think that if they had any confidence in their ability, they'd love to take the job on as they've the potential to become universally adored by one of the biggest supported clubs in the world, whilst getting paid handsomely for it. And even if it doesn't go so well, they can just blame the board anyway.

I'm not sure how many top class rated manager there is in the world, based on people's perceptions. But they can't all be waiting for Real Madrid, or one or two other clubs, to phone them up?

Slowly slowly the choice of managers is getting better. Alonso and Glasner being two. But and this is a massive but. There support staff needs to be grade one. There are people
In Old Trafford that need to be thanked for there services and moved on. And not just the tea lady. If that is done and a good manager instills his stamp
On a team. It will be successful and attractive but not in the old Utd way.
Watch this space.

Who are the world class managers that can be got these days ?

There isn’t many

Glasner has done very well in his career so far , improved every team he has taken over from and might well be the exact type of manager for them
I think there’s 4 things at play here.

1) Understandably, fans put more emphasis on past histories.
2) Calm heads in the business aren’t that interested in going to a club that could break them.
3) Maybe the club can no longer afford the very best.
4) Players are reluctant to go to clubs that aren’t in the CL - maybe managers feel the same.
Apart from Hobbit’s point 3, if the finances are available they should be able to discuss a contract with virtually any manager in the World and that includes Pep or even Klopp.

Absolutely they might got get their No1 target, but they should be aiming that high imo.

Ancelotti came to Everton and left as soon as RM came in, I believe Man Utd are not far off that level as a Club.

Simeone, Ancelotti, Touchel, Emery, Conte.

Any of those would be superior to the names currently being bandrd around.

They can try and discuss but I don’t expect they get any of those listed

I don’t any of those to take over a club or team that needs a lot of work to overhaul a long period of decline

It’s why they need to be giving time to someone on the level below to build a foundation for then a top coach to come in a build on top

Glasner would be a great choice

Glasner fell out with the Sporting director at Wolfsburg, started well at Frankfurt then dropped off in his last season there.

Questions over his relationship at Palace!

Yep, ideal for Man Utd.

I don’t believe the hierarchy at Man Utd see themselves as a project for someone to be given time and then bring the top coach they talk about.

For such a struggling Club you do know they are only 3 points off 4th in the PL.

Well for starters Pep and Klopp can be written off, there's no way they'd manage Utd no matter how big the salary. Ancellotti has just started at Brazil. Simeone decent manager but top drawer? Hardly. Conte good manager but already had his fingers burnt managing in Premier League. I've looked at the managers around Europe and I can't see one besides Pep I'd consider stand out.

Then they need to see themselves as a rebuild project , they aren’t the club that dominated 20 years ago

and instead of looking at a single moment in the current season how about look across the last 12/13 years - they haven’t seriously challenged for a major honour ( title or CL ) since 2013.

The ownership is a mess , INEOS don’t appear to know what they are doing

Those managers you named imo won’t touch the club at the moment

As an Everton fan I’d love yous to get relegated.😇

But as a Football fan I still see Utd as one of the biggest clubs in the world that should be attracting the best managers and players in the world.

I don’t see you as a project club with someone being given 3-4yrs to “turn you round”

I’ve mentioned on here a good mate up here is a season ticket holder at OT and has stated numerous times he and other supporters thought Amorin was good for the Club and was moving yous in the right direction, but those above want instant results from a Yes man.

The money wasted on pay offs would be, imo, better used on getting the best.

Since 2013 they’ve won the FA Cup twice, runner-up once.

Won the Caraboa.

Won the Europa League, runner up as well.

Yes it’s been 12 years since winning the PL or CL, but that only brings pressure because of their stature.

Only 3 Clubs have won more and Arsenal have won the same.

But as always to prove a point and find a stick to beat Utd it’s always the “trophies won since SAF retired” quote.

So just cups then

And it was a stick that was used to beat us for 30 years when we were only winning cup and not titles ( apart from a CL )

They haven’t even made what anyone would say was a serious challenge

How long can a club keep trying to rest on past history , the stature of the club as each year goes by will be taking a hit

The name can only go so far and it’s something we only know too well

If they could get a top manager then they would have done before they got - ETH or Amorin

They can't, but people constantly drag it up, mostly non-United supporters.

I know Liverpool fans were equally as dismissing of Cups when they won their Poundland treble :ROFLMAO:

And now it seems Anderson from Forest is on Man City’s radar. So that’s two alleged United targets, in a position where we are desperately in need of reinforcements, unlikely to end up at the club.

January going well, so far…..

There are a few teams that could have done with Gallagher and the price is pretty decent - would have added legs and work rate in the middle

Players like Anderson and Wharton I think will be on the move in the summer for a significant amount

Would you take Glasner next year or someone of that ilk

I think Wilcox may have a word or two to say about Glasner’s liking for playing three at the back.

My personal preference? No. But then, such has been the managerial merry-go-round in the last dozen years, I’m not sure who I’d like any more.

Glasner just doesn’t seem to have the personality to be at a club the size of United.

Glasner played 4 at the back at other clubs - he just adjusted for the players he had in his squad and played to its strength

Got to find someone to settle things down and build

Thats why the whole 3 years to judge and then going a couple of months later just was very confusing
