Connor Gallagher to Spurs. I'd have liked him at Utd, from what I remember of him

And now it seems Anderson from Forest is on Man City’s radar. So that’s two alleged United targets, in a position where we are desperately in need of reinforcements, unlikely to end up at the club.

January going well, so far…..

Do you think the uncertainty with who will be the manager is going to put off some players in joining Utd?
No one wants to join to then find a new manager who doesn’t want you or brings in someone in your position.
Also who is deciding what players if any to bring in during this window?

The uncertainty will not be helping, I’m sure.

If you were an agent, you would surely guide your player away from Utd until that is sorted. How could you know if the next guy fancies you? The only players you would end up getting are those that other clubs want rid of, and that is not a good place to be. I'd be surprised at any signing for you before the summer now, although saying that, January is not the greatest time to be making key signings anyway.

I heard that.

And for all the talk of Hojlund and McTominay performing so well in Italy, that has to be balanced against the fact that Serie A does not compare with the Premier League. So straight comparisons are a little misleading.
Yet bizarrely, he didn't use Hojlund or McTominay as examples. At least with them you could sort of see the logic behind the point he was trying to make.

I suspect the board have no intention of buying anyone in January, told that to Amorim, and that may have been part of the fallout. I've no idea if they simply don't want to commit to buying anyone, or they can't due to FFP

Carrick confirmed.

Assistant manager Steve Holland, and also part of the team will be Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans and Travis Binnion.

Hoping we can push for a European spot for the rest of the season, albeit the next 2 fixtures could be painful. It'll be interesting if Man Utd achieve that by the end of the season, and then what the club choose to do with the manager going forward.

Genuine question for Utd fans here. Say Carrick achieves those goals what happens then?

Well done Carrick deserves full time role and the process of rinse and repeat starts again of inexperience manager with zero pressure did well short term but can’t get a proper tune going to move forward. Or thanks for the sit time to step aside and bring in another manager (god knows who) to do another rebuild and move you forward.

I’m not being pedantic I’m genuinely intrigued as there seems to be no forward planning at all with the club and where they seem to be heading.

I wonder if Carrick will be allowed his say on transfers both in and out or if that will be left to someone higher up and Carrick will just be the coach

This is why I’m genuinely intrigued because ultimately as. Interim what power does he have to shape section of said or suggest players he deems needed for improvement. Surely anyone they sign won’t be first choice names as there’s no stability an no guarantees beyond the end of the season. It’s nonsensical for a decent player to choose Utd as a destination without any future planning.

Isn’t he already on the clubs board 😂

Imposssible to speak on behalf of the board.

It won't happen because we have players like Dalot. But, theoretically if Man Utd start playing free-flowing football, which many believed we were not because of Amorim, and we start getting a lot of wins and make the top 4 or 5, how would it be possible to get rid of Carrick in the summer? You'd finish the season on a high, fans and players would be buzzing. Even if you bring in Ancelotti or Tuchel, it would be very difficult to replace that. I don't think you can easily replace a manager that the fans are behind, unless that manager themselves wants to leave.

Obviously, if Utd keep playing inconsistent, rubbish football, then it will be easy for the board to look for a full time replacement.

I'd like to think there should be natural improvement compared to last few weeks, given Amad and Mbeumo are back, Bruno is back and we may have a few more defenders like Maguire getting fit again. I'd have expected improvement even if Amorim was still here.

I think we can only wait and see how the next month or two go, before having a firmer opinion of what should happen in the summer.

It’s also interesting for the players already there whose contracts expire at the end of the season.
Do United offer them a new deal or let them leave for nothing.

Not saying either way is correct but unless they have a full time manager in place it’s a difficult position to be in.

That’s kind of my point feels like a false economy to keep doing the temp manager thing as you get the inevitable upturn in results with players coming back. Fairly decent finish so he gets long term contract more is spent on new players only to rinse and repeat especially if those above are putting their finger in the pie making decision about who is to be signed rather than faith in the manager.

Only for it to not work out, club not move forward and then start the same cycle again. Realistically I can’t see any signings coming in this month as I’ve mentioned above who’d want to with so much uncertainty so Carrick is going to have to rely on the same poor midfield as Amorim and Ten Haag did.

I believe Casemiro, Maguire, Malacia, Sancho and Heaton are the main experienced players out of contract, and a few other youngsters. Probably fair to say several of those players we will be happy to see go. Maguire the most interesting one. I suspect he'll leave anyway, given we have De Ligt, Martinez, Yoro and Heaven as 4 centre backs who have had a lot of starts.

Most interesting, what will be done with Bruno who runs out in 2027, or other players that have contracts that run out in 2027 (Shaw, Martinez, Bayindir, Mainoo). Because, now is the time you want them to either extend, or look to sell them in the summer.

It's where the director of football kicks in. They have the overview there, the direction that the club is going in. They can probably make most of those decisions.

At the same time, I imagine utd will be putting together a short list already and discussions will take place over the coming months. Even if they don't announce the manager, surely they will have an agreement and at that point this person and the DoF will go through the list of those players and make decisions.

The above all makes sense to me, but it might not be as smooth as that 🫣
