Having had a trip out over the weekend, I have to admit I only watched 15 - 20 minutes of the game. It was probably 15-20 to much. It was rammel. I had the game on the radio and I heard that England were playing with a defensive midfielder. Anderson. 🤔 now don’t get me wrong what I know about him could be written on a fag Packet. But the point is. Why are we playing a defensive midfielder v Andorra period. Why is Rashford in the squad, Jordan’s Henderson in a squad v Andorra.
When I look at the football teams play in the Prem league and then see that. There is something seriously going wrong in the England men’s team.
V Andorra, that set up and team was atrocious. The front players needed feeding, that game was ideal for MGW to start with. I would forget who was missing through injury or just not picked. There was an enough quality in that squad to get a better result but more importantly a better performance.
The midweek game could be a tough one to watch, again.

I didn’t watch the game last night but I think England are on a hiding to nothing against this sort of opposition.
For me it’s job done with the end goal of qualifying, the result is all that matters.

It’s early season still nobody wants an injury in a game we are always going to win so none of our players are going to go flying into tackles.

It’s a crazy time to be having an international break but with FIFA needing to have the club World Cup the end of last season wasn’t going to be viable.

Cannot Argue with that, but the after match interview. Anderson said “ we knew it would be a team that would sit back and defend in numbers”. So if they and the rest of the world knew. Why not put on a creative player who can unlock the door. Why play with four defenders. It just beggars belief.

Because they don’t have the luxury like club teams of bedding in different formations pre season. So makes logical tactical sense to keep a formation that they’ll likely use against stronger teams to build familiarity.

That being said the level of player we have even in that system should have the quality to unlock teams regardless.

Imagine the reaction if we did that and Andorra scored first. The press would annihilate us.
I think it was actually a great game to start Anderson no pressure a game we will always win much better than playing a better team and he may struggle.

I think it’s much more bizarre to start Rashford.

And Henderson is there to show us all that no matter of age we all have a chance of still making it with England 😂

You say that as though Anderson was playing as sweeper. Did you just want 7 or 8 players going gung-ho attack?

Anderson seemed perfectly capable of playing the ball forward. England could have scored 4 or 5 had they not been wasteful.

At same time, they were never really going to play high tempo attacking football to try and tear Andorra apart. It was a game they'd always win. They've another one coming up. It's early season, so most will probably be playing slower to guarantee no annoying muscle tweaks in an easy game. And there were a lot of new players playing together, so they will be less instinctive in understanding each other's games.

When was Elliot Anderson a defensive midfielder?

Has been a box to box midfielder anytime I have seen him play , very good ability on the ball

Tonights Woltemade Watch....

6 mins: GOOOAAL..A Woltemade assist as he plays the ball through to Gnabry who cooly advances on goal and clips the ball over the Northern Irish keeper.
15 mins: Woltemade receives the ball close to the penalty spot but cant sort his feet out to get his shot away.
18 mins: W again gets the ball with his back to goal but cant swivel and shoot, doing an impression of Bambi on ice at the moment
23 mins: recieves the ball in the center cirlce, controls it well but is easily disposessed
29 mins: a misplaced pass as the Germans try to break out
34 mins: GOOOAAL... a deserved equaliser for Northern Ireland....this German team are really not very good and they've struggled against a committed NI team who have pressed Germany exactly like Slovakia did.
H-T: 1-1 NI thoroughly deserve to be on terms. Germany nervous and seemingly afraid to try forward balls, though there are players making feints and showing for the ball....very reminiscent of England sometimes.
51 mins: a hopeful ball pumped into the box bounces off the back of W's head behind for a goal kick
61 mins: Woltemade is substituted
69 mins: GOOOAAL...calamity at the back as the keeper comes for a diagonal through ball, both its intended recipient, his marker and the NI keeper miss the ball and it runs through to the back post for a simple tap in for Germany who have upped the tempo noticeably since the substitutions and have actually started to try to play balls forward a lot faster
72 mins: GOOOAAL...the game has suddenly run away from NI as Wirtz hits a great free dipping kick from the inside left position which beats the keeper into his top right corner
F-T: 3-1. The quickfire double allowed Germany to see out the game in relative comfort as Northern Ireland ultimately ran out of steam.

As for Woltemade...after watching him for a couple of games it is clear that the Newcastle coaching staff have plenty to work on. Full international is obviously a step up from U-21's where he shone in the summer and its been a tough transition, not helped by the abject team performance the other night and the lack of intensity across the park tonight. Needs to improve his all round movement significantly, if he is to create space for himself that will allow his ball playing abilities to be demonstrated...however, not only do the coaching staff have plenty to work on, they also have plenty to work with but he might not feature much in the next half a dozen league games (which is typical of how Howe introduces players into the first team)...maybe just 15 minute cameos as he adjusts to Howes set up and gets up to speed with his fitness.

If you read my initial post, my point was not Anderson playing but the point of playing a defensive midfielder. I would have said the same if it was David Batty. Why play a defensive midfielder when MGW is sat on the bench for 80 minutes.
And to suggest I wanted 7-8 players going gung Ho. Those players should be clever enough that if one player has advanced others drop in. Again to suggest no muscle tweaks. One thing I did see was players running off the ball expecting a 30 -40 yd pass and the ball just went sideways. MGW thrives off players making a run.

But was he playing defensive midfield?

Worst keeper to play in the prem?
He’s got to be in the conversation.

How does any club look at his performances for UTD and decide to sign him?

Modern football is mental, sometimes it makes me wonder if it’s just money laundering.

I've been his biggest critic but he's not the worst. Their back up keeper is probably one of the very worst for me though. Onana did make a lot of mistakes and has some serious flaws but he did have plenty of decent games.

I think the signing was a result of the Ajax/ETH link and on the basis of one good season at Inter.

I think if you look at ETH's signings and what they cost and what they've been sold for it must add upto £100m?

Northern Ireland make it 1-1, and ground is louder than it has been all night. Sounds like the home team scored.

Away trips as a N Ireland fan are immense. I need to get on more
