Stupid challenge from Gordon. I don’t think he meant to do it but it’s up to him to be in control, needless in that part of the pitch.

Newcastle much better side for all the 1st half.
If they had started Isak I think they lead now 🤔😂

Not according to the Talkpsort commentary, whoever the player pundit is.
I'm not sure that is a ringing endorsement 😄.

It's a yellow for me, clumsy and late, but not a red. It was a yellow according to the ref, who saw it with a clear view, before var had a whisper in his ear People don't have to agree

The two early Newcastle "bookings" for the high boot and Trippier's fractionally late challenge are not yellows. In the first instance the Liverpool player had his head down and there was not an ounce of actual contact. Trippiers challenge was merely the coming together of foot on foot...fractionally late. In a game in such a febrile atmosphere the ref is making a problem for himself if he starts dishing out yellows for such challenges early on.

Similarly the Gravenburch yellow card I was surprised at, given the circumstances of the match.

No issues with Gordons red, he is obviously desperate to do a job for his team, but you cannot go racing into challenges at such pace...there is no way you can time your challenges at that pace.

The goal changed things...turned Newcastle's intensity into frantic aggression resulting in a loss of composure.

Second half will see Newcastle playing with a false number 9 that Liverpool will be unable to mark. :ROFLMAO:

Think the ref contributed to it by having very little control on the game

If he had dished out that first yellow it might have calmed things a bit
No...he would have found himself having to dish out yellows left right and centre for every similar challenge...would end up with 10 v 9 and everyone would say the ref ruined the match by boxing himself into a corner early on.

They were yellow card challenges, high foot , late and tackle from behind

He let two go and then straight to the book for the Liverpool one and that set the tone

Liverpool have been disciplined.
Newcastle have been reved up by the crowd
Stupid by Gordon.

First minute is poor to concede.

What’s Konate doing there.

He is shocking - he was saved being the worse when Coote was around

He has no control in this game

I don't mean to be harsh but he's been bad for years now and is still overweight. How can you have refs that out of shape reffing elite players in the best league in the world?

My view is you ref the game the same every time, if it's a yellow in the first minute then show the card. It will calm things down. Letting those go because it's the unofficial rule just leads to injustice and things getting out of control.
