What’s the alternative

All this constant moaning about spending

Get out there and earn the ability to spend more instead of this expectation that just because someone has a very rich owner they should be able to just get the instant spending

Many clubs didn’t like Chelsea and City being able to spend their owners billions - it’s why many other clubs including Newcastle fans claim they bought their success

Now they are crying that they can’t do the same as what they moaned about over a decade ago

It’s time certain clubs need to stop the constant moaning and look at themselves and the reason why they have struggles - because the club in the past has been poorly run and owned

Some clubs spent decades building their club up , went through lean periods and just kept building

The demand for instant success and some imaginary level playing field is embarrassing

It’s not been a level playing field since the sport started

You’re happy with the status quo Arthur. Why wouldn’t you be? I totally get it mate. 👍

I’m surprised that there isn’t the same bile being spouted about Newcastle with a player being very clear about wanting to join them
I think it’s more the hypocrisy of the Liverpool fans after they called Trent a rat, booed him & vandalised his mural.
Even after he honoured his contract, turned up to training & helped them win the league.

I could be wrong tho 🤷‍♂️

I’m happy that clubs can only spend what they earn and not be reliant on some billionaire

That way the competition isn’t which club has the richest owner

And still all those moaning can’t come up with an alternative that’s fairer

I’ll take one title using money generated by the club over 10 titles using money from a state or hedge fund billionaire

Difference is that Newcastle have actually submitted a bid for Wissa that has been turned down...even though the bid met the value that Brentford had informally told Wissa would be accepted. Brentford want to hold out for more money because they think Newcastle are on the verge of a big payday when Isak goes.

It seems to be the done thing these days that a club will only submit a bid if the player promises to come. Its a bit like only asking a girl out on a date if she's already indicated that she will say yes. Man U are seemingly doing the same thing with Sesko...saying that they will submit a bid if he says he will sign for them.

It's well known that many of these pundits are happy to accept payment in order to make a tweet/FB post or whatever on behalf of the folks paying them. I wonder how much Romano charges per tweet?

As been said - it’s not Liverpool that’s made all this public , we haven’t released or said anything

And clubs these days don’t submit bids for players unless they know the club will sell and the player will come

There is no point us bidding if Newcastle aren’t going to sell Isak

I’m confused how this all happens.
So Isak is under contract for 3yrs at Newcastle.
Newcastle don’t want to sell.
So what gets the ball rolling?

A happy player is a better player.

An unhappy player can cause issues within the squad.

The Newcastle squad is in a good place right now, they don't want someone there who doesn't want to be. Isaak has said he would like to go, no doubt Liverpool have slipped into his DM's 😉

This is my reading of it 🤷

There might not have been any direct official public communication from Liverpool's press office, but clubs use the media just as agents and players do...a quiet word "off the record so to speak" in the ear of a friendly journalist or media outlet..."any chance you can make a tweet that we are potentially thinking about sounding out a player with a view to considering making a possible bid but only if the selling club might give us a hint about how much they might possibly want to sell the player for. Oh and if things move forward we might have further tidbits for you".

This is all it takes...nothing official and if nothing happens then no one gets hurt or needs to know. But the moment something like this hits the public domain then it has an effect on the player who is then potentially pushed by his agent. Obviously there are other things at play here...the failed promise of a new contract possibly being the biggest of them. Eventually there are enough straws that cause the camels back to break.

It was already said that it was Isaks side that “had the quiet word”

If Isak is to leave then we will bid , I’m going to guess that Liverpool have told Newcastle that they will put in an official bid if there is a chance of the player leaving

Until Isaks team went vocal Liverpool were elsewhere - Isak was always a player they would have wanted but wasn’t a target

A lot of it will be down to his contract , maybe the promise of players coming to help

He is prob the best all round striker in the league and we would love him but not going to start bidding unless it’s going to go somewhere

I don't think that anyone (other than the two clubs, player and agent) knows truly what has been said to, or asked of, other parties. In the age of twitter and FB there is a huge blurring of the lines between fantasy and reality. When that blurring occurs, and no new information is forthcoming, a lot of things get fabricated in order to keep the "purveyors of modern news" relevant.

IMO this is all coming from the player and his side to try and engineer a move away

Isak will need to be very clear to Newcastle as well

All this “exploring options” nonsense just add more confusion

If he wants to leave then put in a transfer request and tell Newcastle to negotiate

Not a fan of what’s happening right now

Or Newcastle just want to get two strikers in and then let him go

So this is a very interesting video.

Level playing field? Or certain clubs protected by the rules now because of their legacy wealth from the days when their spending was unchecked?

Here is football finance expert Keiren Maguire’s take on it.
Not on the wind up or anything. But I have been saying exactly the same on this forum for years. City have had to break the rules to get where they are now. There is nothing complicated about that. They have had to break rules. There is no grey area.
Arsenal, Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea did not want City, and do not want Newcastle to break that monopoly.
And yet the very people that run a corner shop ( premier league) are trying to run a supermarket.

It's now common practice for personal terms to be agreed before an offer for a player is submitted.

It’s all a bit embarrassing the way Liverpool fans treat Trent, but now they’re buzzing over what Isak is doing.

Suppose that sums up modern football 🤷‍♂️
I don’t like what Isak is doing it’s childish to get your own way!

Said to my mate “ do we really want that attitude in a player at Liverpool.”

I’m not so sure it’s very unprofessional imo.
