Newcastle took a chance on Isak at a time when he wasn't awfully prolific in LaLiga...most of his goals came in the 19/20 and 20/21 seasons....6 goals in 32 matches in 21/22 wasn't setting anyone's world on fire...he now needs to give a little bit back in return but also to be shown there light at the end of the tunnel in terms of him moving away.

Think it’s half the reason why every single contract in Spain has to include a release clause in it that the player has to activate himself

With Newcastle actively looking for other strikers i think it’s a case of when and not if for when he leaves - it doesn’t help when Newcastle appear to have zero structure above the manager

Sure, biology means the men would beat the women head to head. But, it is a completely pointless argument, as that is the same in nearly all sports. It is why there are gender categories.

Take that argument away, the simple fact is that the ladies were quality. In terms of movement, ball control, passing, crossing, finishing and tackling, they execute it all just as well as I see week in, week out from the men, from a technical point of view. Lots of pressure, millions watching, knowing that if she missed the likes of Joey Barton were ready to mock the women's ability to hit a penalty, forgetting all the horrific penalties from men over the years.

The opposite is actually true. You hear constant comparisons with mens football from the media and pundits. The women are better because they win stuff, less diving, this shot is faster than anything in the PL etc.

I've always watched a fair few womens games as I love football but the standard is woeful. Spain were the only side in the whole tournament who looked like a proper football side in terms of technical ability.

For me the glaring differences are the lack of pace, standard of goalkeeping and general technical ability. There's also the fitness levels which are substandard. If any male footballer was in the condition a good chunk of the women are in, they would be given untold stick.

People should just accept it for what it is and leave the comparisons alone.

It certainly doesn't....whilst Paul Mitchell was an utter failure in his short time as Sporting Director, having missed out spectacularly on signing anyone of note, his decision to leave at the same time as his mate Darren Eales (due to ill health) has left a gaping hole in the areas that are key to managing player movements and getting deals over the line and will be felt not just for this coming season but the one after that.

Mitchell himself was the one responsible for telling Isak that he wasn't getting improved terms that had been promised him by the outgoing Amanda Staveley led management regime. Now, the logic behind that decision was pretty sound, but there was obviously no contingency planning or thoughts as to the potential ramifications of the decision. Since Staveley left there does seem to be a lack of warmth and togetherness around the club....she provided a clear link between the footballing side of things at all levels, and the senior levels of management and the board. Now it very much looks like an "upstairs/downstairs" operation...but unfortunately the "dumb waiter" has stopped operating.

With regards actively looking for other strikers...I believe the ship has long since sailed for this window...certainly in terms of buying anyone vaguely comparable to Isak. Sesko is the last of those who might move, but I expect him to go to Man Utd, having no doubt suddenly being a supporter all his life. The long train north will be (as it seems to be for many players once based in London) too much for Wissa, Brentford will (as is their right) play hardball with both him and Newcastle over any possible transfer and if he goes anywhere he will end up at Spurs, back with Thomas Frank and still getting CL football which he wants. That leaves us foraging about for folks like Strand Larsen, Muniz and Calvert Lewin...hardly players to set the pulses racing. Hell...it may even come down to accepting Nunez as a part exchange in the deal for Isak.

If we are going to go for someone left field...I'd like to see us sign Nick Woltemade, the German striker who impressed at the Euro U-21's a couple of months ago. Seemingly was set for a move to Bayern but that deal has recently cooled off, though I believe the player still wants it to happen. Would be available for around £50-60m if he were to leave Stuttgart.

What really needs to happen though is for Liverpool to get their arses in gear and submit a formal bid for Isak. Nothing in bloody installments either, if you want the player that badly, pay the amount, in full, upfront.

As said before no club is going to pay £130mil up front and it doesn’t really make much difference if the fee is instalments

Liverpool and Newcastle are talking imo and will submit the bid when they know the club will sell him

I’m surprised they didn’t look to bring back Ashworth

As for Sesko - think he would do well at Newcastle -Man Utd need to sell to get him

Rumours are that we don't or at the very least we don't have to sell before we try and get him. Given that Newcastle are keen and in a position to sign, if United want to rival them then they have to be able to offer a similar situation and not have him wait to see if we can get shot.

I’ll be shocked because the club was close to PSR and has spent well on a couple so far without bringing much in
 
United had a good win against B'mouth this morning.
Lots of intensity, a goal from Rasmus and Dorgu was just immense.
Early days, but the intensity and fitness are vastly improved over last season.

From my experiences watching England, I'd disagree. Well, the men are certainly faster at running, I'll give you that. I've also been impressed with the goalkeeping in recent years, and I remember being seriously impressed by Earps in previous tournaments.

In this tournament, players were controlling the ball with ease, even if the pass wasn't always perfect. They were taking it on the half turn really well, and were more than capable of getting into space, often making things look easy where an amateur footballer would look awful.

As I said previously, however, I'm used to watching Man Utd mens team. And over the last 2 or 3 years, I've seen some of the worst football I've ever seen. And I'm sure fans of other clubs who play further down the table regularly remember seeing horrific football from their sides as well.

P.S. Regarding your first sentence. It is very easy to see how many fans will prefer to watch England women than the men (not necessarily fans of mens football, but simply fans who are not already obsessed with the mens game), as relative to their opponents, the women play well. They may also dive and cheat less than the men, albeit that may well creep in more and more. But, has anybody genuinely said "this shot is faster than anything in the Premier League????". That makes no sense, and sounds like a Twitter comment or someone trying to be sensational for hits.

It was actually a thing. I think it was Chloe Kelly's penalty against Nigeria in the 2023 World Cup. The ball travelled faster than any shot recorded in the Premier League the previous season.
It's an interesting anecdote.

I would argue the case that the comparison is there. And it is a very strong comparison. England scraped through the semis on what was one of the worst penalty shoot outs seen on global television. England came up against at team that were worse than them when taking penalties. We. Hold quite easily have gone out in the semis. Lo and behold, it was actually the same in the final. Once more both teams were rubbish. And once more England scraped through.
But the point is, Weigman has done a very very good job in getting a squad of players to win a tournament. And that has to be applauded. Which I have said on more than one occasion.
But when it comes to the men’s game, how many pages have we had on this forum where the men’s team have not performed against Croatia and Italy teams amongst many others to get over the line.
My point still stands, why have we got it so right with the women’s team and not the men’s. When it comes to bringing football home.

What’s the alternative

All this constant moaning about spending

Get out there and earn the ability to spend more instead of this expectation that just because someone has a very rich owner they should be able to just get the instant spending

Many clubs didn’t like Chelsea and City being able to spend their owners billions - it’s why many other clubs including Newcastle fans claim they bought their success

Now they are crying that they can’t do the same as what they moaned about over a decade ago

It’s time certain clubs need to stop the constant moaning and look at themselves and the reason why they have struggles - because the club in the past has been poorly run and owned

Some clubs spent decades building their club up , went through lean periods and just kept building

The demand for instant success and some imaginary level playing field is embarrassing

It’s not been a level playing field since the sport started
