Question for you both.
If your team were playing in it would you have watched it or shown more interest in it?

Are those of us in England and even Europe the target audience for this competition or are they trying to attract the fans in places like South America or Mexico etc?

Are they hoping the US fans would get behind it and then create more interest and money for the World Cup next year?

I personally have no interest in the AFCON but understand the huge importance it holds for the African supporters.

Probably not, if I’m totally honest. When United have played in it previously, or in the Intercontinental Cup, I haven’t watched. I’ve never really regarded it as anything more than a pre-season tour, despite it being held many years ago in the middle of our season, when United withdrew from the FA Cup because they could not accommodate both. I remember the stink that caused.

Despite the MLS, and all of the efforts in the States, football is not a huge draw over there. Never has been, never will be. And I certainly don’t subscribe to the view that FIFA are seeking to “grow the game” - they, and the individuals who run the organisation, are motivated purely by self interest, as the ludicrous decision to give Qatar a World Cup illustrated. They haven’t changed in the years since, and never will.

I wouldn’t be staying up to midnight , 2 etc in the morning to watch it
I agree you wouldn’t be but if you was a fan of a small Mexican team and your club for the first and possibly only time in its history we’re facing the great Real Madrid then you would.

That is my point.

For us fans in England it is a nothing competition in the wrong part of the world at the wrong time of day at the wrong time of the year.

Re the club World Cup. Infantino has said it has been a massive success. Because of the money it has generated. And there you have it in a nutshell. Money.
Now he is happy 2 million people paid to attend and watch games. Conveniently Forgetting 1 million seats were left empty.
Imfantino said the only country with higher average attendance is the prem
League.
Clubs made a bucket load of money so there happy.
If there is a massive negative to be turned into a
Positive. It has to be the playing conditions for the World Cup. They have to change or someone is going to die.
FIFA have already said some stadiums will have roofs on.
Be interesting to hear pathetic sharks comments
On stadiums With roofs and grass because the pitches have also been slated.
My teams been innit but I have hardly given it a glance.

If it’s supposed to be a competition to find out the best club side in the world - then it shouldn’t be involving those sides etc

So it’s manufacturing entry for some teams

Fans around the world aren’t going to tune in to watch Auckland vs Mexico City etc

It says it all when FIFA were trying to find a way to manipulate a contract for Ronaldo

That is where you have fallen into the trap of believing what FIFA have said.

It has nothing to do with finding out the best club side in the world it is all about making money.

If as an aside to that some fans around the world have enjoyed the competition and seen their team play against opposition they wouldn’t normally get to compete against then that is a positive.

Congrats to Chelsea on becoming the new world. Club champions for the next four years. Taking the trophy off City 😉
No one expected that. 👍

I think the fact Pedro came off his holiday, played 2 games and got 3 goals sums this tinpot event up.

I don't think you could dream up a worse event to promote football.

Empty seats bar the big games
No atmosphere except a small section of travelling fans
Terrible pitches
Climate too hot to play serious football
Second rate winners in Chelsea

Get this format in the bin.

But on a positive. Infantino will be bogged off coz the poster boys got runners up. 😂😂👍

Not a shock this morning the hyperbole about Chelsea is through the roof

Enrique has embarrassed himself though
We all know if Liverpool had won it & battered a very good PSG team in the final you’d be singing a different tune 😂

I had very little interest in the tournament, but £130m isn’t a bad return for playing in it 😉
