Mbeumo would be stupid not to ask for that much. He's dropping 5 places down the league. No European football to offer when other clubs can. The only incentive they have is big wages.

I believe they actually paid Sancho £250K, before shipping him off on loan?

I think it is widely accepted that the salaries they have given to the likes of Casemiro and Mount were ridiculously high and ridiculously stupid. Would everyone agree with that? I'd imagine INEOS would also agree, especially give the amount of cost cutting they have been doing over the last year.

I'd be shocked if they put all this effort into shipping players out on loan to partly cover salaries, make many staff redundant to cut costs, etc. and then go and pay a player £250K-£300K a week, much higher than most of the other senior players. Bruno is the only player who's £300K salary is not really questioned, but he is the captain and put his years into the club to earn it.

I mean, I'm not saying it is unthinkable. But I'd be surprised.

I don’t think I would be surprised if they did give him that much because of the situation of the club

If they want the player and that’s what he asks for them what does the club do - they don’t have the lure of CL football to balance things out, at this present time it’s a drop down because of where Man Utd are

Newcastle and Spurs were interested and they can offer that as well as decent wage

It’s these sort of wage demands that will happen

The fee for a player with one year left on his contract seems mad as well - £60mil

Well, they don't HAVE to sign the player at any cost.

If he wants the money and Newcastle or Spurs are willing to pay it, then he is always free to discuss terms with them as well.

You are right they don’t and could easily walk away from him - depends on how much they see him being the player the manager wants

But players are going to ask for significant wages to move to the club

I think there was/ is a genuine interest. He came last year to view a house we built in Altrincham. Just a couple of weeks ago he got back in touch with my boss to see if we have any new Developments on the go . Make of that what you want ? Ps . Zirkzee bought 1 of the houses & Mykilenko bought the other of last year’s houses

He's got a decent property portfolio, he's obviously just looking to stregthen that. He's Forest through and through! ;)

Eddie Howe has already said that Newcastle have walked away as the package demands were too great.

Ultimately, you can't blame a players agent for asking a big sum. Whether a club pays it, that's up to them. I suspect they feel that Utd would pay that amount for a guy already proven in that league. We'll see.

They will expect above minimum wage, yes. But, there has to be some realism.

Some players did manage to get crazy wages before INEOS came along. But, Cunha looks to have agreed a deal on less than the £250-300K it was reported for Mbeumo. de Ligt agreed a deal just under £200K. Ugarte, Martinez and Onana came in at £120K. So, it isn't like every player that is expected to make the first team are coming in and demanding £300K

Cunha is still a decent wage up from where he was

The situation the club was in for the others was prob a little different last summer - at least in Europe

Situation now - no European football and a club bottom half

The name Man Utd can only stretch so far - without any European football players may look for a bit more

It’s not much different to the situation we found ourselves in ten years ago

Slightly changing tact but I think that in the medium/longer term not winning the Europa League will prove to be a good thing. Granted it's probably affected our transfer dealings this window but with the present squad having to play games on a Thursday on top of the existing schedule would have probably meant another season of mediocrity in the league. Not suggesting that we're going to be challenging next season but I do think fewer games and having the league has a focus will be a good thing. Had we won the cup it would have papered over the cracks and I could potentially see a repeat of last season.

Saw a Tweet doing the rounds (by a Villa fan actually) along the lines of "Man Utd are now the English equivalent of Saudi Arabia. For players who want big wages but have no ambition."

Football is cyclical. Man Utd will be able to buy their way back to the big time again. It may not happen in the next year or two, but it'll happen.

There’s a lot of very bitter Villa and Newcastle fans out there at the moment who don’t like the fact that they still cannot attract players despite having Euro football.

I think the bigger issue is the FFP nonsense where they have to sell two players just to buy one good one, yet United can spend what they like effectively.

In some ways yeah it can be a good thing to not be part of Europe - two games a week isn’t easy if the squad needs work

Winning the FA Cup prob didn’t help ETH

As long as the club doesn’t suffer financially then a season away is workable

We lost £60-70mil by missing out on CL so had to take a hit

And why can’t they “attract” them? Because they aren’t allowed to pay them what (the likes of) Man Utd can, even though they could afford to.

And because they are forced to sell their best players to remain within the stupid boundaries of PSR.

I understand the annoyance at that.

I think the bigger issue is the FFP nonsense where they have to sell two players just to buy one good one, yet United can spend what they like effectively.

But that’s due to a lack of understanding of PSR. United’s revenue compared to Villa, Newcastle and Forest is beyond comparison, in fact it’s not that far off being similar to all three combined. Look at Villa as well, wages account for 90% or so of revenue!!

Plus, revealing you want £250-300K doesn't seem the best negotiating tactic. Because even if the club agreed, they'd just say "OK, we'll go for the £250K option then"

Sounds like someone unrelated to the deal has basically guessed what he might be looking for, inflating it based on the silly wages Utd have paid others, and their calculation has come up with something in the £250-300K ballpark
It was reported that when Newcastle were interested that Mbuemo wanted 4x his current salary...so around £200k+, so the interest cooled.

Maybe a bit inflated when Man U come knocking but two different clubs interested and similar apparent salary demands....no smoke and all that.

So in effect, you agree, and surely you can see why Villa, Newcastle, Forest etc are annoyed at being hamstrung by some daft rules?
