Elanga was offside. T is on the edge of the centre circle in his own half in that picture.
No, it was elanga offside, Taiwo sprinted half the pitch to get on the end of it (he’s on the other edge of the centre circle in our half).

So would have been completely avoided.
Cheers

This is the exact type of incident that many of us said would happen

He is clear as day offside - flag is supposed to go out for obvious offsides

They need to sort it asap

conned 🤷‍♂️

I’m very sure that the club knew there was a chance he would leave for free - that the risk the club took when they turned down the bid in Jan

Plenty players leave clubs for free

Trent imo made his choice a long time ago
So you agree it’s the clubs fault he left for free 👍🏻👍🏻

Ok to help to see if the penny drops

Madrid want Trent , Trent wants to go to Madrid

What is the best outcome for Madrid and Trent - paying £50mil for him last summer and Trent getting a nominal signing on fee

Or Madrid and player waiting the year and getting him for 0 transfer fee and Trent and his agent getting a big juicy signing on fee

The agent will be doing his very best to get the best deal

Trent imo was always looking to leave , no intention of sighing a new contract

He could have like other players have done signed a new contract with a release clause but again less money for him and his agent

Two more games and we can all move on
See if the penny drops.

If Madrid wanted TAA last season, willing to pay £50 million, then TAA would have been advised by his agent to tell Liverpool he wants to leave, and negotiations would have began if Liverpool were willing. That is how transfers work.

But, it seems Madrid were NOT looking to sign TAA last season

They wouldn’t have wanted to sign him last year as they’d have had to pay for him, but they would have very much had their eyes on him for this summer

Not sure why the shock and outrage. This has been Madrid's MO For a while. They contact their targets about 2 years before their deal ends and tell them they will sign them for free

Case and point

Ruiidger
Mbappe
TAA

Madrid know money isn't unlimited in football so they do this.

Leaves them able to sign Bellingham for 100 million ....

4 players for only 1 big fee

Also weakens clubs around them as they don't have that investment

They are not stupid

Indeed.

And I don't blame Madrid either. As much as they have been a joke of a club for several reasons lately, it is a great business model. They owe no charity to LFC or any other club. They are in the lucky position they have the profile that players are desperate to join after contract runs out. If most other top clubs tried that, another club would probably come along and snap them up instead.

They created the problem themselves by being known for big money, people put the prices up. They couldn't go on forever so changed

Clubs have to protect themselves

We had the situation with rice. We got him signed to a deal to avoid him going for free. Unfortunately he only wanted London so limited the fee we could command for him but we got a decent chunk (bit cheap now) and it also balanced the books a lot being home grown it's pure profit

Grealish did it for villa

Exactly the point , the seeds were sown last summer , Wenger even highlighted, they would have been speaking to his agent since last summer to ensure they get a player for free 👍

Hopefully the penny has dropped , the player these days holds the cards

The club would have struggled to sell him and they aren’t going to stick him in the reserves , make use of him for the last season and move on

Both very valuable players, that other PL clubs were willing to pay a big fee to sign.

I'm not convinced any top clubs would be willing to sign TAA on a huge transfer fee. I suspect LFC would value him much higher than he is worth to other clubs.

On a free, he is worth the risk (well, not much of a risk beyond his salary). But I doubt LFC would have ever let TAA go on whatever Madrid were willing to pay.

LFC tried to extend his contract, as expected. But as he didn't sign it, perhaps they could have let him go earlier for some money. Had Grealish or Rice not signed a contract extension, I imagine they might have been moved off earlier for maybe half the fee Villa and West Ham got. Not perfect for those clubs, but better than sweet FA

Didn't you start this by saying TAA should have told Liverpool he was leaving, so they could look to sell him?

Now you are saying they'd have struggled to sell him, so make use of him in his last season and move on.

Trent not signing and leaving on a free. Oh the outrage!

I dare say part of him wanted to stay, if a stellar deal had been offered, hence the odd mixed message. But is loyalty really a sensible commodity to have?

Scenario; player moves to a club. Uproots family, kids from school etc. Part way through his contract the club decides to sell him. Loyalty or business?

Loyalty goes from paycheque to paycheque.

Yes that’s what Trent should have done imo

Told the club his intentions so they can work out the options , offer a contract with a release clause of get some sort of deal with Madrid

But imo he strung the club and fans along , kissing the badge etc etc etc and that’s why many booed him

It’s over now , we can move on with new players coming

He was offered a deal bigger than what Madrid have it seems but doesn’t get the big payoff for his agent

Some fans feel disappointed by it and expressed their feelings and I can’t blame them, there is no point getting connected to players these days because some will always look to leave

Thankfully for most we kept the two big ones out of the three

TAA is at least the 7th player from Liverpool to sign for Madrid. He won’t be the last. This won’t be the last time this discussion about one player leaving a certain club crops up.
Clubs sign players clubs sell and lose players. That’s the way football goes. A player is at a club for nigh on 20 years. Wins premier leagues, champions leagues etc, plays 353 games and is told his time at Liverpool is tarnished. It is laughable.

So LFC needed TAA to tell him his intentions so they could come up with this great plan?

I mean, when he simply refused to sign a contract, could they not have done that anyway? Just offer him a deal with a release clause so anyone could sign him for a realistic fee?

Are Liverpool fans that gullible, that kissing the badge hides the fact he has still refused a new contract, with time running out? As a player, I'm sure you can still be passionate about the club you play for, yet still yearn to play at another even bigger club.

I get why Liverpool fans boo, yet I don't blame TAA. It is like someone leaving a long relationship for a better one. Can't blame the person for leaving if their old relationship for a better one, even if it is a difficult and hurtful decision. And can't blame the person that was left for feeling hurt, rejected and bitter.

You really are contradicting yourself Phil.
You said Liverpool turned down an offer.
Just like the rest of us,you haven’t got a clue how it actually played out & just get your information from the media & social media 👍🏻
