Maybe I should have highlighted the bit in your post I was questioning. You said the foot was high, I was just pointing out it needed to be at that height to get the ball. The excessive force was not being questioned.
Remember the keeper a couple of weeks ago ?
His boot was where the ball was but it took a piece of the strikers ear off.
Getting the ball isn’t what it used to be !

having just seen the challenge, how he was not sent off is beyond me. He clearly followed trough and at one point he is clearly off there floor with both feet. So according to the laws. How is he in control.

More jessie lingard imo
Thing is with Sturridge he did Chelsea, City and Liverpool and prob a few more.
Sancho did City, Dortmund and Utd, Chelsea.
Lingard mugged off Utd.
Makes me wonder how desperate some clubs really are going after these players.

I thought it was a red. We've seen plenty given for less.

I didnt know VAR could reccomend a yellow card
They certainly can't if that is the only thing being reviewed.

But, I guess if they call the ref over to review something else, the ref can decide if a yellow is also warranted. For example, ref gives a penalty and VAR calls him to review. Turns out striker blatantly dived. No penalty and yellow
