Very happy!

We only lost to Brugge in the league stage away from home because Mings picked up a ball from a GK...

Some cracking fixtures in there though!
Pretty weird in the new format that you can play the same team in rounds 1 and 2.

Also that teams from the same country can face each other already - didn't it used to be the case that they couldn't until the quarter-finals or something?

PSG Liverpool should be good.

Yeah its all a bit mental but the draws got some bangers..

Madrid derby
Bayern V Bayer L

Crackers!

Maguire was labelled a flop, but I never felt he was that bad personally. Started off well, then was shaky (not for England), but has since shown he is still a strong defender. Is he the world's best, no. But he has been nowhere near the biggest failure at Man Utd. Didn't Utd pay over the odds, yes, like they do for most players.

Hojlund is certainly heading towards being a flop. he started young so needed more time to get experience, and has shown promising signs. But, as a forward, if he doesn't start giving a decent goal return soon, it is a flop signing. Utd can't afford to spend so much money on a player who takes 3 or 4 years to start doing well. A lot of Hojlund's failures could be attributed to his team mates though, not giving him any real chances to work with. And the fact the Club have relied on him too much, rather than bringing in another striker or two to share the responsibility. So, if he is ultimately labelled a flop, I'd say that is as much, if not more, to do with the club than Hojlund himself.

Antony is a huge flop. There looks to be potential in there somewhere, but potential is pointless if you never see it on the pitch.

I wouldn't call Onana a flop, nor the best keeper to ever represent Utd in PL. It wasn't an extraordinary fee we bought him for. He has had several really bad errors, but he has also had a lot of solid performances that often get overlooked. Most keepers seem to have a handful of errors over the course of 18 months. I guess if you were to rank flops, Onana could currently be somewhere on the ranking list in PL history, but nowhere near the top. If you had a flopometer, where 100% was a pure flop, maybe I'd stick Onana around 40-50% at this stage. Yet, I reckon any keeper Utd had brought in at that time would have since had a tough start to their Utd career.

Felix looks to be a massive flop based on money spent on him, and then how quick Chelsea offload him. Caicedo looked poor when he signed for Chelsea, but my barber (big Chelsea fan, and comes across as a very measured, objective fan) has told me that he has been brilliant over the last year or so, and he really likes it when him and Lavia play together. So, I'll take his word for it to say Caicedo isn't a flop now that he is settled.

If the likes of Maguire aren’t called flops then Nunez isn’t called a flop

Mental draw

Seems winning the group wasn’t the best idea when being middle of the pack gives a decent draw

But if you want to win then need to beat the best teams

It only gives you an advantage if the best sides all finish top 16ish, thing is - they didn't :ROFLMAO:

How do we judge the likes of

Maguire
Kepa
Enzo
Hojlund
Caicedo
Antony
Felix
Onana

Maguire is perfect example

Decent player , massive fee ,

Is he a flop or just been ok

For me someone who flops is someone who is signed and then does nothing of note for the club over their period of time

I still maintain that Hojlund is unfortunate and he's been bought by a mess of a club at a point in his career that he should have been learning his trade. Instead he's been dumped in at the deep end, playing for a team that are utter garbage and he's taking flak for not scoring goals despite getting very little service. I agree that at times he could have done better but he's young, he's going to miss things. If we switch to an alternate reality where United are run by competent people we would have bought someone like Kane to lead the line but also Hojlund as the (hopefully) future Kane.

That is one of the strangest arguments made in trying to justify an opinion? I don't even know how you are comparing the two players to provide a like for like comparison.

Very easily

Both cost a lot of money and both have the same level of impact to their respective teams

For me neither is a flop but neither have justified their fee

I think he is a decent player who just doesn’t suit the way United play and hasn’t been able to find any sort of form

Klopp lost confidence in Nunez,Slot obviously has no confidence in him.
He’s a Flop,if he played for any other team you’d be saying the same.

Very generous there!

At least Nunez has some areas of strength. He's physical, quick, great at running at defences but lacks the cutting edge. Holjund doesn't have anything about himself at all. Despite being a big unit, he rarely dominates defenders and often ends up in pointless grappling matches where he ends up on the deck trying to claim a foul.

Nunez will go on to be a success somewhere in Italy or Spain I reckon..

I think if he played for Liverpool or Arsenal he would be scoring goals

He has zero confidence right now

Nunez has all the attributes but in front of goal too many times he just snatches at the chance which is frustrating when you loook at some of the goals he has scored for us

Talking about the Champions League, I like unseeded draws in cup competition.

Taking the joke from above, who wants to see the Madrids of these world beating the Derbys for the 1st few rounds. Especially if Madrid is playing teh kids instead of the Bellinhams and other stars.
And liking an underdog team, would't you want a lucky draw early on to get into round 2 or 3, and then get a cracker. And there is also the enjoyment of Schadenfreude to see a great team getting out early and their fans complaining it is unfair.

Any cup, no seeding. That's my opinion. If you want teh good teams rise and teh small teams fail, have a league. Champions League is the wrong name, should be champions cup.

Wasn't sure about the Champions League format at first, but now it's got to the knockouts it's great that there's no seeds based on anything but results in this year's tournament.

Liverpool coming top was as relevant as the winner of a 36 hole strokeplay to determine the qualifiers in a matchplay tournament, ie all they did was qualify and then it starts again.

Real Madrid playing Man City in a qualifier, both Madrid teams playing each other, ditto 2 big German teams, 3 English teams on a collision course, it's fantastic.
