Coote is human . just like everyone else. Yes he was PL referee, but so what?
I can fully understand him keeping his sexuality quiet, Justin Fashanu, NIgel Owens and Gareth Thomas (yes the last 2 are rugby union, but the status is the same) all recieved abuse because they came out gay.
Or is anyone going to say that homophobic (and racial) abuse are a thing of the past now?

Those other people you mention didn’t come out as gay after they have been caught doing drugs , insulting people on camera and potentially match fixing

Him being gay should have no bearing on those actions

It comes out as a cynical play to try and gain some level of sympathy for his actions

Owens and Thomas came out when they were still part of the game and continued to do so very positively

It is very hard for someone involved in football to come out as gay because of the Neanderthals out there

But this moves just feels like a play for sympathy

And will add - imagine going to the same publication that helped get him the sack in the first place

The fact it only seems to be two Man Utd fans defending Martinez is very telling I think. Everyone else can see that that style of 'tackling' is horrendous and has no place in the modern game.
In the interests of balance, I just took a look at a Man Utd fan forum to see what they were saying when the Martinez challenge happened.
To be fair, they were mostly unimpressed with him too.

20:18 onwards...

Point 1: I certainly hope people don't point the finger at me for dragging this conversation along. There seem to be plenty that want to continue it :ROFLMAO:

Point 2: Arthur Wedge has already revealed Red Cafe is a site visited by fans of many clubs (who do you support, as you were on the site as well). As a Liverpool fan, he goes onto that site. So, I wouldn't take anything at all from what is said on there. In the heat of the moment, I would not be surprised in the slightest if the many Liverpool fans on a site of millions are itching to throw in opinions like that. Get their trigger fingers ready.

I've never looked at it before. Your view made me wonder how other United fans' had reacted so I asked Gemini AI the question and it lead me to that site in about 5 seconds.

I'm a Forest fan but a lifelong football fan generally. I couldn't care less about your team specifically, but when something happens that's controversial I like to read about it and I don't mind hearing views that differ to my own. So I had a look.

The Man Utd / Liverpool thing is comically toxic. When we played Villa I looked at the Forest and Villa fan forums and YT videos and accompanying comments. Most of the posts by opposing supporters were largely friendly and supportive of each other.

Agreed on that point.

Personally, I wouldn't go near Red Cafe. I had a look through the section you linked, and a few pages beyond that, and I think I've made a good choice. I wouldn't trust a word anyone in there says, what their background is or what their motivations are. Most of the comments were hugely toxic. I'm sure some where angry Man Utd fans, but I'd happily put a bet on that many of them were pathetic fans from other clubs (mainly Liverpool) who are there to simply criticise everything they can. A minute or 2 after the Martinez incident, chat on that virtually game to a stop, and then derogatory remarks were made of many other random incidents as they occurred during the game.

I know these types of fans exist, especially with the Man Utd / Liverpool rivalry, where the only thing some fans wish to do is slag off their rival as much as humanly possible. I'm sure Red Cafe is the primary location for such people, especially on match day. The rest of their time, they can spend hours on twitter or facebook trolling the other club, creating memes, etc. I think a good rule of thumb for anyone that goes online is to avoid having discussions on platforms with millions of Users, with no identity. It's why I quite like Golf Monthly. Only personally know one other user of the forum (though they don't come on this thread), but at least you know you are talking to real people and sort of get to know the angle they are coming from in certain topics, clubs they support, whether they hate WHS or not, whether they hate LIV or not, etc.

When I saw Martinez jump in the other day I did wince and think "what are you playing at?" Seen him earlier in the season do the same thing.
Red card offence? Could so easily have been. If I was Lisandro I'd think of another way to block an opponent. Sailing too close to the wind with his present method

Not everyone can be blessed with well mannered fans, only the best clubs ;) :ROFLMAO:

I think there's a decent level of respect across the board from non "big six" clubs now, were all in it together trying to break down the status quo.

It does beg the question !
“ what are VAR watching?”

You can’t do that now just incase you do miss time it!
He didn’t and that’s fine but if the striker is quicker that’s a bad injury waiting to happen!

With the referee being given death threats etc are these types of posts just adding fuel to the fire

Was the decision that bad ?

In all the games over the years there have been some horrendous decisions -

The Red card for the Arsenal wouldn’t even make any top 100 of “bad decisions”
Richards and other pundit weapons are partly to blame. As my still pic shows some posts ago, Lewis-Skelly goes in studs first on the calf and then on the ankle. There won't be any apology if the appeal is chucked out, which it should.

For the last time, in my opinion he wasn't tackling his opponenet, he was merely trying to block the ball.
That's it from me on this one, I've said my piece and am sticking with it.
I'm now out!
😛

Why would you jump with both feet to 'block the ball', increasing the likelihood of it going straight underneath you? Given that Traore was running with it and not shooting? If you are correct then Martinez's decision-making is even more baffling than we thought.

In other news, United have just secured the services of Arsenal's up and coming centre back Ayden Heaven.
Not exactly the wing back I was hoping for, but hey ho.

I suppose they are going to try and stock up in certain positions like centre back. Given we need 3 in that position, doesn't leave a lot of wriggle room if you start getting a few injuries. Especially when there is not much of a future with Lindelof and Evans at the club.

I'd love us to go out and bring in a couple of exciting wing backs and a goal scorer. But, I don't see much being done in January. Certainly wouldn't want a rush signing. This season is a right off anyway, but shouldn't get relegated, so probably doesn't make sense to panic buy now just to try and climb the league a bit. And, need to offload players as well, to free up cash anyway.
