Do you really think Emery is the same manager he was at Arsenal? Hes massively evolved (a large part of which came from his time at Arsenal and then developing his style/himself further based on his own comments) then further time in La Liga, he has also had more of a say in the players at his disposal at Villa. Add in different expectations and then results and no surprise youre far happier than most Arsenal fans were with Emery. But its not comparing like with like totally

No I don't, but he's not far off. His tactics are pretty clear to see from any team he has worked with. Sevilla and his time at PSG before Arsenal had a style of play that not far off what he played at Villareal and now at Villa. He only had 3 years away at Villareal before he was back, he didn't change that much in 3 years.

Thus far Emery has had 3 transfer windows at Villa, he's brought in the following:

Jan 2023 -
Alex Moreno - LB
Jhon Duran - ST (not an Emery signing but the old head of recruitment)

Summer 2023 -
Diaby - Wing
Torres - CB
Tilemans - CM
Zaniolo (loan) - forward
Lenglet (loan) - CB

Jan 24 -
Rogers - forward
3x youth players GK, LB, RB

You're right, we have changed the club structures to be what Emery wanted, effectively the owners have worked with him to define what should be in place and implemented it. Much like Pep at City or Klopp at Liverpool. We brought in Monchi as our sporting director from Sevilla who Emery enjoyed working with and trusts.

Effectively, we've given him everything he could ask for other than megastars on the pitch.

But - a lot of the foundations were there before he came. He turned a relegation scrapping team into 7th place finishers with literally the addition of a LB and great coaching. He's improved all of the following players: Watkins, Bailey, Ramsey, McGinn, Kamara, Luiz, Mings, Konsa, Cash, Digne, Martinez.

We could debate till the sun goes down but for me, he's in the top 3 managers in the premier league. And the other 2 are obvious.

I guess what I am saying is that the club and the players do not need to change styles, it is more that managers are saying that that they can only coach, train and play one style. Surely a manager should be able to go into a club and play a style that suits the players he has and then integrate different aspects as new personnel become available rather than try and impose an unsuitable style of play on a club and then complain that the players are not there to play how they want.
But if you get a similar manager who utilises the squad avaliable won’t you get similar results.?
Results are why they are sacking the manager in the first place.

It depends I guess on how they are coached. what players are used where etc.

It is just a case of being intrigued when it went from bringing in someone to work with a group of players and get the very best out of them to a situation of bringing in a manger who can only develop a team to play one way and needs a wholesale clear out of players to do that. Was it ever that way, was that me just thinking back to the days of everyone playing 442 etc

Not feeling good about tonight's game at Forest.
Players sure to miss out tonight include Shaw, Malacia, Martinez, Martial, Mount, Hojlund and Wan-Bissaka.
50/50 calls on Maguire, Bruno and Varane!
It'll be an interesting line-up if nothing else.

Unfortunately it looks as though Rashford will be fit!

50/50 on Bruno???? Shocking, he never misses a game. Although, I'll be delighted not to see him for a game, just so we can try a different player in that position every now and then. Like to see Eriksen play the Number 10 for a game (or dare I say it, McTomminay despite his inability to pass well). At least we'd be less reliant in their inability to track back.

I'm expecting a raft of injuries against City, including Rashford. Especially if tonight doesn't go well. I reckong there will be one or two players who don't fancy playing against City

Agree with a lot of that.

A big criticism of him when he was at Arsenal was his lack of his ability to communicate clearly to his players and he has clearly addressed that before his stint with Villa. One thing I would add is that Emery to me is as much as a coach as he is manager if not more, hence your statement he has improved lots of players. For this to be successful he needs both improved communication and the right people around him again especially in terms of sporting director and the demarcation of his role and how that aligns with the club and its board. Id argue he has a better structure and better people round him (his people) currently than he did at Arsenal at the time having been hired by Gazidis who then upped and offed to Italy to be replaced by Sanllehi and he was clearly way out of his depth sadly.

In his time at Arsenal, Emery brought the likes of Saka, Martinelli and Nketiah into the first team picture and a lot of Arsenal fans I know have a lot of gratitude to him for that (even if we didnt realise it fully at the time!) I have no axe to grind with Emery and have said before that he was badly treated at Arsenal (a lot of that because his face didnt fit) and that it may come back to haunt one day, happy to see him doing so well with Villa and hope it continues.

Its one of the biggest criticisms I have of Arteta is that while he has clearly improved the team he hasnt actually improved many of the existing individuals outside of the first XI and is rather resistant to putting any faith in the squad or academy players, his success has come more from the systems and plans he has brought in and implemented as well as several key acquisitions to complement the better players he already had. You cant have it all though...........

Sadly, it's Rashford again.

I can only hope Antony shows his unstoppable ability tonight.

Bruno playing again, so probably wanting to get another game in before he cries off for City :)
Antony only seems to score goals against Forest as our defence is awful.

Matt Turner is in goal so you will be guaranteed to score

FA Cup QF Draw...

Wolves or Brighton v Coventry
Nottingham Forest or Man Utd v Liverpool or Southampton
Chelsea or Leeds v Leicester
Man City v Newcastle

Is it just me or is it absolutely nuts that they do the draw for the next round before all games in this round have even kicked off?!
I gave up on the draw once they stopped doing it at 12:30 on a Monday lunchtime and it was only available on Radio 2.

If you had a transistor radio in school on the day you were suddenly quite popular!!!

What’s happened with Amad ? Looked a great prospect

This website is very useful...I have it set to Premier League but you can use the drop down menu to select other competitions.

If you use wheres the match you can get other sports as well as football if needed, the one you use is great just for footy :)
