He’s lucky that the press have spent the entire season to date focusing on getting Erik ten Hag the sack. Newcastle have had injuries, granted, but they have underperformed and then some.

To be fair Man Utd are ten times the size of Newcastle, have a squad worth vastly more, have been below Newcastle most of the season and imploded in the CL. They also finished below them last season. Howe made a rod for his own back by overachieving so much last season. I do think Newcastle will look to replace him in the summer though.

On the issue of FFP, there’s obviously been loads written and talked about Forest/Everton but it seems to me City doesn’t get talked about and speculated about as much. Seems like any sort of final decision is way off.

I haven’t really seen or heard any wild speculation and guesswork by City fans themselves either. Be interested to hear their take on it. So, any City fans, what’s the feeling? Are you worried? What do you think you’ll face and when? Do you think you’re going to face demotion to a lower league? Or do you essentially think it’s all a lot of hot water, that nothing much will stick and you’ll come out the other side relatively unaffected?

Ditto Chelsea, as there are rumblings about them as well.

Or, how do non City/Chelsea fans see it?
To be honest, do I think we have broken FFP. 100% is my gut feeling. By how much. Not a clue. Would City be worth £4/5 Billion now if they had not broke FFP. Not a cat in hells chance. They had to spend to get themselves into a position that is now sustainable.
Ratcliffe at Utd wants to transform Utd and the south of Manchester. City have done that spending there owners money in the east of Manchester . He is allowed to do that. But not spend his own money on the team. Eh 😳.The acadamy and the new 22,000 indoor arena at the back of Citys ground will continue to bring in millions and millions.
There is a train of thought that money gives an unfair advantage. I get that to an extent. So explain how Chelsea and Utd have royally screwed up. City allegedly breaking FFP happened at a time when Utd and Chelsea are wasting billions on players. Fans are watching football in a dump of a ground at Old Trafford. At the same time that City fans and Spurs fans watch there team In state of the art stadiums. Utd has not held a champions league game for 21 years.
Re Forest, I feel for them. When exactly is the end of season financial year ending.Heres a thought. One minute after the transfer window closes.

One of the biggest misses since we started struggling has been Pope. Not for his shot stopping ability, Dubravka is equally as adept at shot stopping, if not better...but for the way Pope is positive at coming off his line and sweeping behind the defenders and protecting them. Dubravka is not a keeper who likes to come to far away from his area and is far more comfortable deeper in his box resulting in him not offerring the same defensive backstop that Pope does and leaving more space behind our defence who are not the quickest.

This is leaving the defence susceptible (especially players like Dan Burn who I hope next season is used as a central defender) to balls played through and over them. The loss of virtually an entire midfield (Tonali, Willock, Barnes, Anderson and then Joelinton at the turn of the year) has further put pressure on the squad and reduced the ability of the team to maintain the high energy pressing game (which was the first line of our defence) that we employed last year. The team simply look dog tired and do not show any energy.

Slowly though, players are coming back, which gives the opportunity for a bit more flexibility with substitutions and starting line ups, which should hopefully have a knock on effect on energy levels and see us through to the end of the season. We've actually got a reasonably easy run in and there is every chance that we will finish 7th or 8th which is exactly where I thought we would be.

The summer should see a quite radical overhaul... I don't expect Lascelles, Longstaff. Murphy, Dummet, Wilson, Ritchie to be with us in August and if we have to let a marquee player go to help give the squad more strength in depth then so be it.

I do not believe that Howe will be replaced in the summer if we finish top 8.

United came 3rd last season, that was above Newcastle who finished 4th.

I think Howe could be on borrowed time if Newcastle do not get any form of European football next season. He does seem to have one good season and then struggle. IS he really that one dimensional as a manager that he is easy to play against or is it a lack of decent players given the Newcastle injury list. I can see how the talent pool at Bournemouth may not have been as strong as Newcastle and their pot of money but there does seem to have been a real dip in their form

Great effort by Blackburn last night. Proper football, created chances, pushed Newcastle to the very edge. Newcastle created sufficient chances but are just 5% off right now. A good cup match.

Some tasty looking FA Cup action tonight.

Chelsea v Leeds United
Nottingham Forest v Manchester United
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Brighton & Hove Albion
Liverpool v Southampton

Wouldn't be unrealistic to imagine cupsets by Leeds or Southampton.

Wolves v Brighton hard to call.

And depends which Forest turn up against Man Utd! Have no clue what to expect from us at the moment!

Brighton got half their team out, so that's an easy one to call...

Wolves 0-2 Brighton

Also, probably one for the random irritations thread, but £25 for a midweek cup game is extortionate.

As we are now missing another two first team players I suspect we will be a full team of academy players so wouldn’t surprise if we lose tonight - just two many games in a short period with the level of injuries now. Even some of those playing will start on empty after 120mins on Sunday

It’s ridiculous to have the FA Cup games midweek in between Prem games - joke

Is it not the same number of games as usual though?

In previous seasons, would they not have just had the FA Cup games at the weekend, and then an extra round of PL fixtures midweek?

But, if you are fighting for 4 trophies, you are going to have a lot of games.

I can see Leeds turning over Chelsea if Pochettinos mob are anything off their game....you dont know what you are likely to get and other than Cole Palmer Chelsea seem to struggle for a clinical finisher.

What's the injury situation for Liverpool on Saturday? (Against Forest, which is why I'm asking)

Same as tonight, or are you expecting players back before then?

I think we may have a few back

Endo , Mo , Nunez and Dom are expected back for the weekend

Can see Leeds running Chelsea close but can't see Southampton winning at Anfield. Will EtH get a reaction after the weekend? Could be interesting if they get knocked out and they have nothing to play for apart from a CL spot and that is far from a given. On current form a Europa spot could be hard to get
