Can’t see how it can be awarded to someone who wasn’t at the biggest tournament.

Last year of Messi being in contention surely.

Haaland has plenty more years, his biggest barrier is playing in the Premier League.

Can't see how it can be awarded to someone playing in a second rate league 🤷‍♂️

Across the whole season it has to be Haaland, he scored masses of goals, his team won a genuine treble.

The award has been a nonsense for years now, so many top players who haven't won it. The award has become like the NTA for Ant and Dec, it has to be Messi or Ronaldo 😴.

How many players have won whilst playing in the Premier League?

BTW I am not saying it’s right that Messi gets it.

Has Messi ever won it in a World Cup year when he didn’t turn up?

Messi has won the most because he is simply the best player to ever grace the game and even now at 36 he would walk into most premier league teams..he plays on another level

I do find it strange that the Premier League is regarded as the best/toughest league, yet it rarely has anyone win the individual awards from it.

The year Salah didn’t get it when he was clear the best in the game at the time and then VVD and then KDB shows that Prem players don’t get it - think the last was Owen and that was for a wonder goal in WC

Haaland played to another level last season in a competitive league.
Nostalgia shouldn’t come into it.
They’re simply giving him one last Ballon D’Or imo.

Didn't Cristiano Ronaldo get his first one while at Man Utd?

Back in the 90's, and early 2000's, to be fair Italian teams were amazing. Spanish teams also decent, with the Real Madrid Galactico's. You then moved into the Ronaldo / Messi era, where they were just both in a completely different class to anyone else. We're now moving out of that era, although the Messi World Cup is clearly going to have a huge impact in deciding the award.

It'll be interesting to see how the votes go after this year though, if English clubs still do the best in Europe. I still agree there probably is a bit of an anti English feeling in the rear of Europe, and votes might feel a bit Eurovisionary

Yes,2008 I believe.

Wonder if Sky sports are in mourning - every single day going on about Salah deal , exclusives , little segments from that Kavel bloke

The club were clear he wasn’t for sale yet they kept pushing it every single day
