Is it that much of a loss? Paid £18 million for him. 13 years of him then let him leave for free

He was on a lot of money ,would be a stumbling block for lot of clubs but now he can go back to Spain for free

His stock has fallen a lot he prob wouldnt command too much of a fee
18 million quid for 13 years of goalkeeping doesn't really sound that bad. Especially when he was the best keeper in the world for 2 or 3 years. Albeit before weirdly declining.

Good signing Szoboszlai , will be interesting to see where he lines up as at times seemed more a wider player

What's the other option? Keep him on a big wage when you don't want him?
Well, the other option was to sell him last year. Don't let him get into his last year. Someone would take him, even at a reduced fee. They kept him, paid the wages, diddly back now.

They replace him last year, with some money from the transfer to help. Replace him this year, having zero in the pot towards his replacement.

It's what arsenal under Wenger did for years towards the end of his time. Wasted value year after year and got hammered for it.

Any player entering the final year of their contract is usually fair game for clubs sniffing around. It's not like his contract situation was a secret.
It's why clubs shouldn't let a player get into that last year. You get to 24-18 months left, talks start. If you don't get a signature by a year left then you sell.

De Gea’s getting a fair bit of unfair stick. Have a look at goals against. Not that bad really. However, goals for is poor. Yes, the odd extra goal might be attributed to better distribution but that goals against stat, with not a brilliant defence, suggests De Gea wasn’t half bad.

Yes I agree but he made some very high profile mistakes, all keepers do at some time.

He did win the Golden Glove so not all his fault.

Yet his wages were 250,000 a week , £13 mil for the year .. that's a fair old saving off the kitty to put towards a new keeper (not like Their short of cash)

Who would pay a fee for him and pay him that ?? They would have to take a massive loss

Not every run down contract is bad business

Spurs won't let kane leave unless they get what they want and it is worth more to them to keep him

I agree with this. But you can only sell if someone is willing to buy. I cant even remember any clubs sniffing about. At the same time a few sew sniffing around Pickford, Martinez and Raya. But none spring to mind for De Gea.

I think he was on £375,000 a week, highest paid player at United.

Players run out of contract all the time. Sometimes it is bad business, especially if club desperately want to keep a high asset player. And sometimes it isn't a major headache from the club.

Man Utd were happy to keep him on last year. He was still their No. 1, and they decided to look at other positions.

Now his contract is up, they are open to keeping him, for the right salary. But, at same time, not desperate to keep him if it means paying a huge salary.

Have any other clubs shown a huge interest in him yet, knowing he is out of contract? Not heard anything, which is surprising. Makes me feel more that had Utd extended his contract last year, no club would have realistically come in and offered a decent transfer fee for him. Even without extending his contract, I don't remember to many clubs enquring about him?

Szoboszlai on his way for a medical , getting him and MacAllister for under the price of one Rice shows how overpriced English players are

Also hear Man Utd have asked De Gea to not sign for another club just in case they can’t get someone else 😂

Just imagine he signed for Liverpool, seriously would you be saying that?
Or would it be “a great signing & a Klopp type player at a bargain price” ? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Didn't bat an eye lid when they paid almost double for Allison compared to what city paid for ederson .. remember city ruin the transfer market

Same with Virgil who at the time wasn't who he became .. proper inflated the market

Personally I think he’s a good signing,if Kane stays he would definitely benefit having Maddison behind him.
But can’t see Kane staying.

Not sure anyone is willing to pay what levy wants

Kane won't leave the UK, I reckon run down his contract and head to Newcastle next year maybe?
