He is a good player. But again mental price for a player with a year left on his contract , Chelsea playing it well with the fees they are getting
Is it a mental price, in this day and age?

Harry Kane, 30 next month, looks like if there is any chance for him to leave Spurs, a much much higher fee will be required than £55-60 million. I think it is a little short-sighted to simply look at the fee and length of his contract with Chelsea.

At end of the day, Utd have bought a 24 year old midfielder who regularly played for England. I've not watched him enough to have ever been blown away by him (not that I dislike him, just not that I'm aware of how good he is or can be), but at the same time, all I've heard over last few weeks are Chelsea fans really praising him, and before last season was one of their best players. I'm happy to rule out his form last season, as Chelsea were a complete mess in general, so hard for anyone to shine. So, the fee for such a young and promising player seems a steal. Would the fee be questioned as much if he had 3 or 4 years left on his contract?

He is a player that Utd wanted, and adds much added quality into that area of the pitch, and work rate it seems. Sure, Utd could have just ended their interest, and waited a year to get him on a free. But, the risk is then that they miss out entirely. Perhaps he finds favour again with Poch, and then signs a new contract with Chelsea. Perhaps more clubs become interested next season, and he goes elsewhere.

As regards to Chelsea, maybe it can be said they've done well to get an extra few million for him. Although, it often does seem that way, as the selling club is often able to drive the price up a fair bit more than the initial offer. However, I'm not sure the extra bit of money Chelsea have been able to negotiate for Mount comes close to covering the huge sums of money they've spent on other players, and the clubs that sold those players to Chelsea have probably come out very well in those deals.
