Is the old school sweeper just the Makelele role?
No the back four was

Right back marked their left winger.
Left back marked their right winger
Centre half marked the centre forward.

Sweeper just sat off the CH and moved along the line shutting down any through balls.

Goal keepers do this now.!

Makelele was more a Mid defender in front of the back four and a very good one as well.

“Thriving” is a a bit strong.
I swear they’re making up stats for him 😆.
Couldn’t tell you if his stats are accurate but when I’ve seen him play he’s been poor.

Did hear something interesting driving home last night. They were talking to a Liverpool reporter and according to him there’s a rift being created been Salah, Wirtz and other forward players. According to the reporter they’re all getting fed up with Salah and his inability to play them the simple ball when they are open for the simple goal but he continues to try the cut back and shoots into traffic, from what the bloke said you could see it last few games as well in the way they’re reacting to Salah on the pitch.

How true that is 🤷🏼 I don’t follow Liverpool and only watch them if there aren’t other games on.

There's plenty that hope by keep going on about Wirtz he will turn out to be crap, but they are hoping a long way. Everyone knows the PL is faster and more physical than any other footy league, and most foreign players struggle for up to a year getting used to it.
Its no surprise his best 2 games have been European game's.
As for him and Salah, the best goal scorers have always been selfish players, but everyone knows Salah was the reason Mane left. We also know Salah will most likely be sold at the end of this season so with the number of new young players very few are that bothered by it.

I’ve not really seen much of him tbh.
Just makes me laugh, the stats they’re making up for him.
In reality he has 0 goals & 0 assists I believe.
£120m,he’s hardly thriving 😂

I don’t have a dog in the fight and couldn’t care less if he succeeds or fails. Merely commenting what I’ve seen of him has been poor and what the Liverpool reporter was stating during a radio conversation yesterday.

The bit I do find ironic though when you look through social media and the media in general they’re all calling for Liverpools signings to have time to adjust including Isak, yet this same outlets are saying Sesko, Gyokeres, Woltemolde and a couple of other new players aren’t up to their price tag and should be doing better! Like I say I have no care about any of those players but I do find the hypocrisy quite comical.

I have been saying that for years!
It’s not a new thing.
But in the past his goals has masked his lack of effort.
This season he’s been abysmal and Wirtz is correct.
But Slot still plays him.

I suppose if you're looking for a certain agenda, you can find it considering amount of social media gumpf thats put out there.
The 3 you mention I would have said are doing very well, considering they are new to the PL.
So is it fans expecting too much too soon, or social media look at me's spouting off?
In my house we call them copter watchers. They are the ones who race to SM to put out that the helicopter is up searching the river for missing persons.

I was down in Liverpool at the weekend, surrounded by season ticket holders 🤮. They all rated Wirtz but said he just isn't physically up to it yet, doesn't have the pace of the league yet. There are moments when they see why the fee was paid and they expect / hope that he will eventually adapt. They are not unhappy with him at this stage, they accept he needs time.

I think it’s the other players as well.
They don’t see in time what Wirtz is going to do and don’t react in time.
He’s a great player and will come good imo.

Kirkez I’m 50/50 he’s very rash.
Eketike has been very good.

Isak caused his own problems imo ,also injured.

That’s about the sum of it , you can see the quality is there and there has been enough moments to see that he will be a quality player for us

The form of the team and a lot of changes haven’t helped him and others but he was superb against Madrid and when the midfield clicks that will allow him the space to express himself

No idea like I say I have no agenda as I don’t support any of the teams. I don’t follow any of those teams on SM, it’s what I’m seeing from fans that support them and various pundits that are being quoted.

I think those 3 are all doing well in their respective teams and have brought them all something new.

It’s the modern world we live in everyone’s a pundit and everyone loves a clickbait headline.

I read that it’s 185 days since his last prem goal.
Not sure if it’s correct

The likes of Sesko , Wirtz imo have all the ability to be a success in the Prem - still believe that Sesko would have been great for Arsenal

Gyokores will score goals , but I’m not sure if his ceiling is as high as someone like Sesko

Unfortunately social media needs to throw labels at players and by November the click bait will be high to deem if someone is a “flop” or not

Edit - will also add that Woltemade imo will be a star

Yeah but last night Newcastle won 3 CL games in a row for the first time in 20+ years...no context that we have only played two seasons in the CL in that time.

Isak's last goal was a penalty scored away at Brighton on 4th May. His last goal from open play was at home to Palace on 16th April
