Looking at the situation re Salah and VVD. It’s similar to what i mentioned about when City have let quality players leave over the years. They went at the right time on deals that were good for both player and Club. VVD and Salah have there best years behind them. Watching VVD yesterday for the first goal, he was shocking. Unfortunately both VVD and Salah will be shoe ins for some time yet. They should have gone at the end of the season. But I would imagine the fans would of gone mad seeing two players go title has just been won.

Palace accepted the bid for Guehi and we also bought another CB in the window 🤷‍♂️ - Palace weren’t selling Guehi until they sorted Europe out and they got a replacement in

Mo signed for 2 more years not a long term contract , was he on the decline last season when he had over 50 goal involvements?

Both VVD and Mo signed new contracts before the window and had nothing to do with the summer transfer budget

Last season it was poor planning to have their contracts run out and now it’s poor planning to extend them by 2 years 🤷‍♂️

Sometimes somethings just happen and hindsight doesn’t make those decisions wrong, or wrong-ish.

VVD, though 34, had an immense season last season. Mo, now 33, was a bit in and out and in all season. I’m not surprised Liverpool kept both but wouldn’t have been surprised if Mo had been let go.

We saw VVD struggle, through no fault of his own, a few seasons back when he was missing a decent cb partner. If Guehi had come in I doubt we’d be having a conversation about VVD. As for Mo, he’s just off the pace now. Mo might find his Mojo, see what I did there, but if he doesn’t find it by Christmas, time to get rid. VVD, with the right pairing could easily give Liverpool a couple more very good seasons.

The strange thing is Konate has been poor this season until yesterday where he was the stronger of the two , it’s a shame Leoni get injured as he impressed in his debut

The full backs in and out haven’t helped as well

The one thing I don’t agree with Slot on is this idea that he seems to want them to invert - that’s fine when you’re Trent but Bradley or Kerkez are not those type of players - they both ( along with Frimpong) should be going on the outside to create the width

Both Mo and Gakpo cut inside which shoold give them space - it was telling when Frimpong did that and put a ball in that we created a glaring chance

Think a few tweaks are needed

A double pivot in from of the back four , full backs adding width are two key ones

Liverpool created plenty of chances yesterday.
Last year they would have scored 5 but when things are not going your way these chances are missed.
The more worrying thing for me is the chances they are giving away.
United should have scored more yesterday and a lot of these chances were caused by simple mistakes from Liverpool players.
It’s not just a one off game either this is common is pretty much all their games this season.

Seems he's fallen foul of the Pep, Arteta school of thought that it retains possession and creates an overload in Midfield. Problem with that is you need fullbacks capable of playing that way and having the ability on the ball to play the type of passes required. I'd say Arsenal currently have the best full backs in the division and have the ability to play this way, yet going forward they frustrate because their wingers invert as well so the middle of the pitch is overly congested and doesn't play to their new CF strengths of getting in behind.

Liverpool have arguably the best front line in the league on paper, so if you stuck to having full backs that get down the outside and create width you'd be flying.

IMO one of the reasons we are giving away more chances is the way that Gravenburch is playing - last season he was huge for us as the 6 , protecting the back four as well as being the person who could take the ball on the turn

And then Macca next to him is way off form

If we can get Grav settled into that role again and then have either Jones or Dom next to him that will hopefully fill the gap

Yep that sums it up

Don’t mind the forwards cutting in because that should give the space behind for the full backs to go on the outside

How many times did Liverpool hit the post? It was just of those games when it doesn’t go in. That’s separate from Mo’s below his standard performance.

Think Gakpo alone hit all three , missed a sitter , Mo missed a sitter , Isak a one on one , Ekitike hit the post and just passed one

But we were still too open
