Thought it was harsh in fairness. Kane going away from the goal and there was a covering defender who would likely have been able to get back into his path to goal.

Yep...wouldnt have taken Kane three strides and a couple of touches to get it in a position to have a shot. Its about "denying a goal scoring opportunity"...not "denying a near certain goal".

and Norway scored Moldova's goal for them.
He was barely going away from goal and wouldn’t have needed to change his run much to be full on goal, and the other defender was no where near. 3-4 strides and he could have easily got a shot away = goal scoring opportunity.
It didn’t look deliberate, which always makes a red look harsh. Soft red.
