Just seen the Arsenal red card.
Very harsh, but I'm glad he got a red.
Absolutely no attempt to play the ball, just a cynical bringing down of a player.
He didn't care where the ball was, that was an irrelevance as he knew he wouldn't get it, he merely wanted to cancel Wolves' chances of a counter attack.
I hate that, I'm glad he got a red card, albeit I think that was the wrong decision.

I'm with @Slime in that I'm okay with that type of challenge getting a red. No attempt to play the ball, it's entirely cynical and it can lead to injury. The problem is the decision came from nowhere, it won't be replicated. If an edict had been put out about those challenges, fine but on its own it stands out.

Agree with both points above. Didn't we have a time where cynical (aka professional - bizarre) fouls were red carded or did I imagine that?
I think they have always tended to be on 'through on goal' moments, although I'm happy to accept I'm wrong. I don't remember anyone getting one so far up in the opposition half. I don't see that it should matter. A cynical foul is a cynical foul 🤷

From my perspective, Fernandinho and Rodri, plus others have been doing it for years. The calls for a sending off have been deafening. It has happened and now the crap has hit the fans. My only problem with this type of referees decision is that is a one off. It won’t happen again. Once more the inconsistency is killing the game. If it had been Rodri, am sure we would be hearing “ he has had that coming for years”. If that sending off happened on a regular basis, fine. But it won’t. What it has highlighted is rammel referees again.

By the letter of the law it’s not a red

But agree with the points that it’s cynical and no attempt at all to play the ball

I suspect they will get the ban overturned

I totally agree.
Unprofessional fouls need stamping out of the game.!
I think it was the right decision.

I'd agree except currently it's not usually a red card offence. If it were, great. It should be. I think he can feel hard done by.

It certainly wasn't high. Above boot height just but not a studs up vicious challenge. I think they got it wrong under the current way the game is reffed week in week out.

If you pull his shirt ,grab hold of him like most break up play.
But hacking someone down with studs right on his ankle is a different thing imo.

They should have a bit more respect for fellow pros and not do that.

Remember Son ( not that type of player ) breaking Everton’s Gomes ankle with a hack like that.
I think Oliver was correct.
