I’m not sure those vests would allow for the fingernail accuracy which VAR demands.
I really don’t know but surely there’s technology out there that can improve it. How does the auto system used by FIFA work?
Why not just let the tracking device in the vest be the offside point from now on? It would be in the chest, that is the line. Your foot, your head etc can be over, the chest becomes the point. Instant decisions, no dispute.

It's different but the same for everyone

It would certainly not have favoured the likes of Wayne Rooney towards the end of his career 🤣

Defenses all at sea in this game tonight...can see lots of dynamic continental teams licking their lips at the prospect of facing Villa or Liverpool next season.

This paired with super duper hi res cameras so all the guesswork as to what frame the ball is kicked gets taken out of the equation, or at least the margin of error would be drastically reduced.

Would you trust the players not to put the vest on back to front?

Both defences look wide open here but the final ball has been poor from both teams.

Klopp needs to tell Elliot we’re playing in white and sto passing to Villa.

Rather than rewatching video footage, semi-automated offside technology uses tracking data to calculate offsides. This entails monitoring the exact co-ordinates on the pitch of every single player and the ball at all times, which is achieved using tracking cameras that are installed underneath the roof of a stadium.

Do you know how many cameras will be needed to do this? Some money involved in setting this up.

Would a torrential downpour coming through a roof impact their accuracy? Not that this would happen in the PL, just a hypothetical question 🤭

Think it’s the same amount of cameras as they currently use - when it’s used in the CL they don’t need to install any more they just use different software I believe

The new technology uses 12 dedicated tracking cameras mounted underneath the roof of the stadium to track the ball and up to 29 data points of each individual player, 50 times per second, calculating their exact position on the pitch. The 29 collected data points include all limbs and extremities that are relevant for making offside calls.

Current VAR uses 42 cameras apparently😲
