Not off a yard here tonight so far, like everyone wants another touch or a bit more time than usual. Not helped by another weak ref allowing play acting and time wasting from minute one so no rhythm plus free season on Saka

Fletch will be happy at least, assume hes sat there with a Porto flag round his neck lol

The continuing saga of the Prem v EFL and money.

Peter Ridsdale has now weighed in with his two pennuth worth of opinions. now Mr Ridsdale was at the helm when Leeds nearly went bust. So talk of keeping it financially competitive although a sound opinion. It’s come from a guy who nearly bankrupt a club. but he talks of parachute payments to clubs that have come down from the Prem and how is it fair.

He states
The top three teams are Leicester City, Leeds United and Ipswich, then Southampton are fourth. Three of those four came down last year and have got parachute payments.

"If we don't keep it competitive and sustainable, then English football is finished."

Should Leicester, Leeds and Southampton all be promoted this season, it would be the first time all three relegated clubs have
returned to the Premier League at the first opportunity.

Now I get what he is saying, But if clubs don’t spend Prem league wages, they will constantly yo-yo.

I have said I think FFP is rammel, but I don’t have the foggiest idea what would be the fairest way to share money out. All I do know is that it is not going to please everyone all the time.

The sad fact is that few players are going to accept contracts which include significant wage cuts on relegation but, to be competitive, promoted clubs have to sign these players. So, what do you do. Do you have promoted clubs facing almost certain relegation immediately as they are playing with a championship level squad, do you have them sign new players and then face an uncertain financial future when they have to pay a premier league wage bill on championship money or do you give parachute payments to allow them to cover the higher wage bill for long enough to get the higher earners off the books.

Seems like parachute payments are the sensible option.
