Honestly not surprised.

Should not have Hendo, Phillips or Maguire there anymore.

Hendo has been a great servant for England but it’s time we moved on. The other 2 just aren’t playing.

Happy to see Eze back, Dunk included and Colwill.

Picking Henderson is an absolute joke to be honest, him and Southgate must be best buddies on England trips, and he just really enjoys his company. Possibly the same with Maguire, although are there any centre backs who should definitely be in way before him? I know Mings has just had a long term injury, maybe had that not happened he'd have got in ahead of Maguire this time? Stones and Shaw are also injured, so perhaps he just needed Maguire in there as an experienced international.

Sterling might be unlucky, as he has started the season very very well. These games have just come too soon for him, but if he keeps up his form then he'll put other forwards under pressure for a spot
 
Sadly predictable from Southgate. I know there is an argument that he has a shortage of central defenders at his disposal but, even in the event he didn’t, Maguire would still get a seat on the plane.

I’m absolutely staggered that anyone who is not playing regular first team football is given an international call up by this manager.

Considering we have both rice and Bellingham (two of best in world) in his position, add to them Phillips and Gallagher, I don't understand the need for him anymore even if he was still prem

True there's a few CBs out, but you could still argue for White's inclusion ahead of Maguire. (Although we still don't know what went on when he was there before and left under odd circumstances. Might have burnt his bridges.) Konsa has been playing for Villa - I'm not sure how well. I guess there's not loads of options, but with it being the start of the season, Maguire hasn't played a competitive game since June!

It’s exactly what I said would happen.

History has shown that Southgate ignores any club stuff and picks his favourites - Henderson was always going to be in the squad
 
Southgate on his inclusion of Henderson;

“We've watched every game, the key as we move forward is going to be the physical intensity of the league, because of the heat as well, whether that is going to allow him to perform at the level we need."

Clearly the physical intensity of actually playing doesn’t apply to Maguire and Phillips. What an utter farce. He went on to say what much of us expected him to say, in that he has a shortage of available central defenders, but even if everyone had been available we all know Maguire would still be in the squad. Clearly Southgate thinks we’re all imbeciles.

In response to you, Phil, sadly I don’t think anyone is actually in the least bit surprised. Irritated or angry, maybe. Surprised, definitely not.

I suspect people were simply saying he definitely shouldn't be in the squad. Although, there was also a resignation that Southgate would do a Southgate.

I thought he might suprise us, and finally drop his favourites, or at least some of them. He didn't

Well at least he is consistent.
We may think he’s wrong.
But he’s in charge.
