Random one this but David Moyes has gone up in my estimation. Turns out my FiL played with Moyes at Preston in 92-93 and the current Rochdale manager asked my FiL if he'd see if he could get in touch and ask Moyes for any advice on how to improve their approach to certain aspects.

Anyway, my FiL knocks on Moyes' front door in Lytham and reintroduces himself and Moyes invites him in for a cuppa and told his mate to get in touch.

Seems a top bloke.

Is inflation running at a higher rate in your world than everywhere else in the UK, Phil?!

Mount cost £55m, not £70m. Casemiro was £10m less than you have suggested. There’s no need to inflate the fees to try and prove your point, not least because I agree that United have been mugged off when it comes to transfer fees for as long as I can remember.

Casemiro was expensive given his age, but I genuinely struggle with the concept that he was not a significant upgrade on Fred and McTominay. Lisandro Martinez is a massive improvement on Maguire and Lindelöf.

Antony is a young player in only his second season in this country. Mount is yet to complete two full games. And Højlund hasn’t even started a game, and is already being written off?

Anyone who actually follows United, rather than their bitterest historical rivals, can clearly see that things are changing steadily for the better. The club has a manager who has instilled discipline where previously the tail was very much wagging the dog. He played a blinder getting shot of Ronaldo, and has clearly identified the players he wants rid of and is trying to manage them out the door, rather than retaining them needlessly. Anyone can see Fred wasn’t at the level required - gone. Maguire nowhere near good enough - being squeezed out. Ditto McTominay. De Gea not the sort of modern keeper the manager wants - gone and replaced by a keeper who was perhaps United’s best player today, and is already looking like a real step in the right direction, given the style of football ETH wants to play.

Sorry, whilst I agree with your comments regarding the captaincy, the rest of your final paragraph belies a real lack of any real understanding of the club I have supported for nearly fifty years.

I guess the proof will be in the pudding during the season then

Not sure what the length of supporting the club matters when looking at the current state of the team/club

But will revisit in a couple of months

Foden has been quality this evening. Could this injury to KDB give him a chance to really solidify his place in the team. KDB is usually the player who isn’t rotated so someone will have to step up.

Foden has all the talent in the world - last season he seemed to fall down the ladder a little but he is stepping up at the moment.

Foden fantastic.
some lovely football from City.

Newcastle very disappointing upfront.

Bruno should see red identical to Mcallisters tackle.
inconsistent again from refs.
On the BBC final score or whatever its called this afternoon then general concensus was that McAllister shouldn't have seen red.

City played controlled football tonight. Foden was fantastic. Although Newcastle have come a long way, it just shows how much further they still have to go.

It seems the general consensus from most is that it shouldn’t haven’t been a red

Apart from the ref , var ( Paul Tierney so no surprise there ) and Mike Dean who said it was studs up on the shin 🤷‍♂️

It should be rescinded hopefully

Yes but it’s PL refs that are sending players off for a tackle like that .
Then the same day one gives a yellow for an identical tackle.

The pundits can say what they feel but it’s the refs making different decisions for basically the same challenge.

City looked a bit jaded for the last 30 mins but can’t remember the keeper making a save.

Love stories like this. Saw a clip on Twitter earlier today of Grealish stopping the line of players receiving their medals after the Super Cup win to have a conversation with a visually impaired girl that was in the line of dignitaries. Made him go well up in my estimation (not that he was particularly low in the first place as he seems like a decent enough guy).

Well they conceded 4 less goals but also scored 17 goals less but then last season was our worst season for 6 years and would expect the ambition to be a bit more than just being above us during a shockingly bad season.

And in the current Newcastle/ City game - how come Bruno is not being sent off , that’s the same tackle MacAllister was sent off for 🤷‍♂️
No consistency Phil.
Just like some players won’t get a penalty awarded for diving 🤷‍♂️

Surely with VAR we should be getting more consistency 🤷‍♂️

Looks to me like his toe might of hit his sock.

even if he did touch him you don’t go down like that unless someone hoofs you.

The only defence is he’s expecting a clattering and trying to get out of the way ,but that’s a stretch!

That dosnt prove contact .
the defender has both feet on the ground.
Only the players will know 100%

Zoom in on Doms right leg and defenders left leg - that’s contact and unfortunately as we have seen over the last 30 years it gives the player the excuse to go down and “earn” the penalty - its poor and way too soft but it’s ingrained into the sport now
