The EFL Thread

Very happy with that - much appreciated! Huddesfield also lost and we won, so currently sit 2 clear in 6th with the better run in.

If we managed to make the play offs given the chaos around the club it will be the achievment of the season in any league IMO.

Transfer embargo for 5 years now (only frees and loans who have to be approved by the EFL)
Only the sell on money from Olise to Bayern kept the club afloat for the first 6 months of the season
Sold our best and only winger to Millwall in August
Lost our manager half way the season when he walked out
Appointed the Academy Head Coach who had pretty much zero first team experience
Sold our best striker to Wrexham in January to pay wages for the rest of the season
Sold our best player to Forest but managed to get a loan back deal (he's been superb and just as committed)
Plagued by injuries all season with often half the first choice side out
Youngest first eleven in the league

Throw in the chaos off the pitch with at least three takeovers falling through, the owner being disquailified and us having the threat of being kicked out of the entire football league hanging over us....yet we're still pushing for promotion. Unbelievable.
Are you actually allowed to go up even if you win the play offs?? Thought I read somewhere with everything that has gone on there was something preventing promotion

Unless the takeover goes through by April 22nd we could be suspended. Highly unlikely, they'll just kick the can down the road until the end of the season. If we make the play offs it will cause the EFL a big headache, which is no more than they deserve. Unles the takeover has gone through by then, I think we'd be kicked out of the play offs and the 7th place team takes our spot which would be sickening.

However, it's looking nailed on it will go through in the next few weeks with Rob Couhig takeover over. He's got liens on the ground and training ground which he's refusing to remove unless he gets £12m in compensation for his original takeover falling apart. That stopped a sale going ahead recently, with the buyer pulling out yesterday and our owner has been backed into a corner. Couhig has agreed to drop the £12m claim if he sells to him at the original price.

We've heard "nailed on" before

It's only been nailed on once before and that was with Couhig. The deal fell apart at the last minute because Yongge went back on it after the deal had been signed off by everyone but him. This time he's backed into a corner by the EFL and the asset hold and legal threat from Couhig. He's got the chance to get out for £30m or essentially be removed, the club demoted to non league and his assets siezed for peanuts by Couhig.

I won't relax until it's a done deal though.

Sheffield United losing at the wrong time. Big gap at this time of the season to Burnley who they play a week today at Turf Moor. I think if Burnley avoid defeat there it is a done deal. Still wouldn't like to call the champions though

Leeds will win it, easier fixtures and a better squad.

Sheffield Utd were due to drop off according to all the data. The worrying thing is the same metrics also say the same about Reading 😅 We've managed to extend the gap from the play off rivals to 3 points despite a very poor performance at Northampton. Almost nicked the win but Charlie Savage missed a sitter towards the end.

Not so sure. Leeds do have history for making it as hard as possible.

They've had their wobble though and are 5 clear with Oxford and Stoke up next. Then they've got Bristol City who will probably be resting players for the play offs before playing an almost certainly relegated Plymouth. I can see it being done by the Stoke game.

But Oxford have beaten Sheffield United so why not against Leeds. I think they are brittle mentally and it is such a daft league in terms of sides beating each other I am sure there is at least one major shock result to come for someone

Leeds struggles have been away against lesser sides, so there's a chance but Oxford are utter trash and a horrible side under Rowett. Shame they've scabbed a few 1-0's as would've liked to see them get relegated.

Think I would prefer to be playing the mid table, little to play for sides rather than the rough house cloggers fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table. (Clarets fan).

Will you go up or be out of the league next week All seems very quiet

Very little chance we'll be kicked out of the league. We're ex Premier League, one the few EFL teams to have a Cat One Academy and the EFL won't have the balls. It's all smoke and mirrors to force Yongge into selling. Stuff is happening behind the scenes. The car park situation was a major stumbling block and that's been ironed out this week.

I believe an extension will be granted due to the change in buyer and that will give us until the end of the season. I hope so anyway as I'm going to Mansfield on Easter Monday 😅

I am not sure about an extension. I think the EFL can't afford to not be seen to be taking action

You really think they'll kick us out 2 games before the season ends? What would happen to the final 2 games? Walkover to the sides and then changing our results to 3-0 walkovers for the entire season, which would change the promotion picture and relegation picture? For example Wrexham would gain 3 points and Wycombe 5, which which would put Wycombe into the Top 2. It would cause trouble at the bottom of the league too and give Cambridge and Bristol Rovers a points gain against Burton.

While we're not a big club, we're a medium sized club similar and the National League wouldn't want a club that has the potential to average 20,000 plus and take 5,000 to local away grounds in their league.
